How Does It Feel Lyrics

I'm not afraid of anything
I just need to know that I can breathe
I don't need much of anything
But suddenly, suddenly

I am small 'n the world is big
All around me is fast moving
Surrounded by so many things
But suddenly, suddenly

How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel

I am young 'n I am free
But I get tired an' I get weak
I get lost 'n I can't sleep
But suddenly, suddenly

How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel

Would you comfort me
Would you cry with me here

I am small 'n the world is big
But I'm not afraid of anything

How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel
To be different from me
Are we the same
How does it feel

[Repeat till fade]

Oh Oh oh...

Avril sounds like Dolores O'Riordon from The Cranberries when she sings, "Would you cry with me here...". I didn't like it at first because it's kind of repeptetive, but now I think it's cool.

I've always thought this song was about a mentally disabled person who's trying to ask everyone how it feels to be different and letting them know that they're the same as everyone else even if they are different: that they get tired and weak, that they want comfort and love just like everyone else. But that's just me.

I know this isn't why it was originally written, and I won't be too popular for bringing classics into pop songs, but this song really reminds me of Catherine Earnshaw from Wuthering Heights.

The verses are about her mindset, and how she's 'not afraid of anything' (she's a proud, strong-headed girl) but then suddenly, she dies of illness.

The reason this struck me was because there are lots of references in the book about how Heathcliff and Cathy are one and the same (e.g. 'I am Heathcliff', 'I cannot live without my life') and it makes me think of Cathy in death, wondering how it feels to him to be separated and different from one another for the first time.

Make of that what you will... :)

The lyrics are actually "Would you comfort me? Would you cry with me?", not what is posted.

Actually, about half the lyrics are missing from this. I'd correct it, but I'm tired, and I don't know them.

I love the mood this song gives. And usually I don't like repetitive lyrics, but the mood and emotion that gives in this song is amazing.

Also I notice some duality going on in this song. And when I read the lyrics, I can really appreciate Avril Lavigne and what she is willing to admit. I see so much strength in this song

"I'm not afraid of anything I just need to know that I can breathe I don't need much of anything"

This shows how strong how Avril is. That she is independent and it doesn't take much for her to live.

"I am young I am free But I get tired and I get weak I get lost and I can't sleep"

But she is willing to admit her vulnerabilities. That the strong person she protrays can be weak in heart. Can feel lost and can get tired. To me, this shows how truly strong she is.

I like the chorus and like I said earlier, I really like the repitition in it. To me, I see it as her thinking back-and-forth how she feels so one-of-a-kind that nobody could ever be like her, yet she questions that logic.

And if someone could be comfortable and cry with her, then maybe they truly aren't so different.

the lyrics are all messed up. you missed the first verse. but other than that i love this song. one of my favorite avril lavigne songs.

She seems to be switching between two perspectives: seeing what we all have in common (what unifies us), and seeing what differentiates us from others. Both perspectives are valid and important for harmonious life.

I found something similar in Natalie Imbruglia's That Day: "We're all the same And no one thinks so And it's okay"
