Pop Music of the Future Lyrics
She sold her Warlock
And bought her drum machine
Fired her old band
Because they hated 909 beats
She's got a loft space
Takes the L- train to Bedford
Runs with some cool kids
That are actors
But dress like nerds
And plays pop music of the future
And no one will ever get to her
She's a shaker, but not a mover
She plays pop music of the future
Back in the 80's
She wanted to be in a hair band
And then in the 90's
She only wore corduroy pants
Snd then there was emo
But that was just a phase
Because it's all been downhill
Since Sunny Day Real Estate's first record
She plays pop music of the future
And no one will ever get to her
She's a shaker, but not a mover
She plays pop music of the future
And bought her drum machine
Fired her old band
Because they hated 909 beats
She's got a loft space
Takes the L- train to Bedford
Runs with some cool kids
That are actors
But dress like nerds
And no one will ever get to her
She's a shaker, but not a mover
She plays pop music of the future

Snd then there was emo

What a great song, great band. I'm guessing this is basically a tribute song to some girl, and if I may say, she sounds pretty cool. Reminds me of myself actually...especially the "she's a shaker, but not a mover" line. Say Hi To Your Mom rocks. That's it.
GREAT song.
I like the song, but the girl he's talking about sounds pretty lame to me. Someone who just conforms to whatever lifestyle is popular?
Cakeandmilk... I think she is not going with the flow... my reasoning is because of the line "Then there was emo, but that was just a phase, it all went downhill since sunny day real estate's first record..." Sunny day real estate really defined the emo sound and thus meaning "Pop music of the future"... So it sounds to me that she is listening to all these indie bands and she discards them when they make it big, becomming "pop status"
hah lovin the sdre reference.
This reminds me of a girl I know who's so cool but she tries just a little too hard sometimes. And it just makes me so mad because being herself she's just as awesome and deep inside I think she knows it.
very beautiful. say hi to your mom is amazing.
Does anyone know what 909 beats is/are?
ear24, She doesn't necessarily discard indie bands when they make it big for the reason that they've attained "pop" status. I don't think that can be inferred from the song. In fact, with the hair bands and corduroy reference and like, she is in tune with fads. The point is that she has defined her times. She, in a way, is pop--but in a platonic rather than aristotelian way.
I would also like to add that "'cause it's all been downhill since sunny day real estate's first record" is possibly the truest statement ever made.
I think 909 beats refers to the TR-909 drum machine.
Hahaha. I love this song. For exactly what lacpunker said. 'cause it's all been downhill since sunny day real estate's first album.' hahaha. : D
