Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
It's autumn in Gothenburg
I'm walking home to my suburb
Rain falls hard on the city
On every homeless kitty
Oh please god bring relief
Even if it's only brief
That she says the dreamer just make-believe
But I thought she said maple leaves
So we talked for hours
And you cried into my sheets
You said you hated your body
That it was just a piece of meat, I disagreed
I think you're beautiful
But it's impossible
To make you understand
That if you don't take my hand
I lose my mind completely
Madness will finally defeat me
She said it was all make-belief
But I thought you said maple leaves
And when she talked about the fall
I thought she talked about the season
I never understood at all
I thought she said maple leaves
And when she talked about about the fall
I thought she talked about Mark E Smith
I never understood at all
I never understood at all
I never understood at all
I'm walking home to my suburb
Rain falls hard on the city
On every homeless kitty
Oh please god bring relief
Even if it's only brief
That she says the dreamer just make-believe
But I thought she said maple leaves
So we talked for hours
And you cried into my sheets
You said you hated your body
That it was just a piece of meat, I disagreed
I think you're beautiful
But it's impossible
To make you understand
That if you don't take my hand
I lose my mind completely
Madness will finally defeat me
She said it was all make-belief
But I thought you said maple leaves
And when she talked about the fall
I thought she talked about the season
I never understood at all
I thought she said maple leaves
And when she talked about about the fall
I thought she talked about Mark E Smith
I never understood at all
I never understood at all
I never understood at all

Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

this wordplay is excellent, and the mention of Mark E. Smith is really damn funny
The strings are actually a sample from "Do You Wanna Dance" by the Mamas and the Papas. I love how Jens uses samples in his music--they just fit so well!
I love his linguistic creativity too, oh the puns!
has anyone ever read the unbearable lightness of being. there is a section in the book called "misunderstood words." i think they address the exact same thing, the role and inadequacy of language in a relationship. i love them both.
:)
Wait. When she talked about "the fall" she wasn't talking about the season or Mark E. Smith...so what was she talking about? Haha.
Maybe she fell down and hurt herself? Maybe she has a limp or big scars from a bad fall -- hence her insecurity about her body.
I'm guessing he means the fall between the two of them; their relationship.
Surely she's being melancholic as in the rest of the song, and talking about THE fall, as in when Adam and Eve went along with devil in the garden of Eden...
"The Fall" by Albert Camus. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TheFall%28Albert_Camus_novel%29
I think this is about a person who is in love with a depressed girl. The girl is talking about how much she hates herself and how her life is falling apart, but the narrator fails to realise this (and also concentrates more on how they feel about her, not how she feels about herself). I think the style of the lyrics is very typical of Jens Lekman; while the narrator sounds somewhat humoristically naive (thinking that she is talking about the band when she's talking about "the fall"), it is yet very honest and human (mishearing, seeing things from a slightly different perspective than the other).
"The Fall" is likely a reference to the Camus novel by the same name. This might support your theory, however, as, although I've never read any Camus, I've noticed his work is often loved by brooding, depressed, young intellectuals.
i absolutely love this song. he has the most amazing voice, and he's so gorgeous!
To me this song is about the perplexities of this guys relationship with whoever this woman is. He says it all in the last few lines...
"I never understood at all"
This girl think she is ugly, and sometimes he doesn't understand what she is saying.
Great song, and good play on words.
So we talked for hours and you cried into my sheets you said you hated your body that it was just a piece of meat, I disagreed
I think you're beautiful but it's impossible to make you understand that if you don't take my hand I lose my mind completely Madness will finally defeat me
This song is so meaningful. I long for someone who is as compassionate at jens to come along... to wear their feelings so broadly.
I never understood at all
Awesome song. I love the strings. And the drums, and his voice, and everything else too. Does anyone who has the album know why there are 2 different versions of this song? (EP version + 7" version.) They're basically the same. I think I like the EP version better, but anyway... Jens Lekman rocks.
completely fabulous!
