You Are the Light (By Which I Travel Into This and That) Lyrics
Yeah I got busted
So I used my one phone call to dedicate
A song to you on the radio
Yeah I got busted
In custody I imagined our melody
Being played on a grand piano
I saw your face in front of me
It was perfect clarity
I saw a light in the end of the tunnel
And it was here
'cause you are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
Yeah I got busted
I painted a dirty word on your old man's Mercedes Benz 'cause you told me to do it
Yeah I got busted
But soon they released me cause the cops were sad
And they didn't know how to prove it
I saw your face in front of me
It was perfect clarity
I saw a light in the end of the tunnel
And it was here
'Cause you are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
It's all so obvious, so obvious
Why would anyone need a map or a compass
It's so beautiful to be guided by you
'Cause you are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light, light
You are the light, light
So I used my one phone call to dedicate
A song to you on the radio
In custody I imagined our melody
Being played on a grand piano
It was perfect clarity
I saw a light in the end of the tunnel
'cause you are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
I painted a dirty word on your old man's Mercedes Benz 'cause you told me to do it
But soon they released me cause the cops were sad
And they didn't know how to prove it
It was perfect clarity
I saw a light in the end of the tunnel
'Cause you are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
Why would anyone need a map or a compass
It's so beautiful to be guided by you
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light
You are the light by which I travel into this and that
You are the light, light

This is probably the funniest song ever. I don't think I've ever heard a song with as much W-T-F factor. The brilliant trumpet fanfare... the horn backgrounds... the female backup vocals... the cute lyrics... and the serious voice against the bouncy melody... it all adds up to a great song. Reminds me of talk shows, for whatever reason.
This is a greaaaat song. The lyrics are hilarious, and with the horns and the claps and everything it's just too perfect. It's so cheesy and kind of familiar-sounding, but I just love it. I also love his slight Swedish accent. Next time I make a mix cd for one of my friends, this is sure to be on there.
He's like a swedish BNL...a one man show
It makes me so H A P P Y :)
haha, this song makes me happy too! its the trumpets and the chorus that make it hard to keep a smile from forming
"P.K. was in the precinct house, using his one phone call to dedicate a song to Tammy, for she was the light by which he traveled into this and that." -David Berman, from his poem "Governors of Sominex" from his book "Actual Air."
So not only does Jens Lekman sample music, he samples writing too! Not to knock the guy, I think it's really cool that he sampled DC Berman.
Haha, David Berman is a great person to sample.
i love how the cops were actually sad because they couldn't prove his crime.
jens lekman is a swedish fountain of sunshine and happiness.
what makes this song hilarious to me is that in a supposed love song, he is so detached. "so I used my one phone call to dedicate a song to you on the radio" is the best part of the lyrics...
Has anyone seen the video for the song? I think that's really what hooked me to Jens' music. He's witty, fantastical, and everything has a great beat!
