the thing i love about this song isn't the lyrics, but the way he sings it -- m. ward's voice is glorious, and this song is a great example of how he can set a mood just by the intonations in his vocals.
I think that this song is about a guy who's heart has been broken, and he tries to find a "cure" for it, (knowing all along that there isnt one) but seeks out even a doctor, when he finds the real answer with his own mom. "mom knows best" eh?
this is one of his best songs.
The way he sings the song is the clincher. But LOVE the line about the "And so I went to the whale, I said killer whale please, what do you do when your true love leaves? i absolutely love this song. i just don't know what attracts me to it, maybe his voice. but it's pure genius. & i agree with bananaloaf
