Hey momma! Can't you see I'm fuckin' cookin'?
It wasn't right for me but I knew it was time for home.
It was half past ten but all the lights were on.
Did you read his face as blank as it was.
Well mother would sit him down as strictly where he was.
And he said...
All my friends, are bloated and floating away.
I left all my friends back around the bend.
The water turned to black as the night rolled on in.
I couldn't hear a sound as I slowly turned around.
There I saw my friends all god damn face down.
And he said...
All my friends, are bloated and floating away.
And I walk on down, I don't feel the pain.
And I'll raise my eyes.
Won't you let me raise my eyes?
Momma let me raise my eyes?
Won't you let me raise my eyes again?
All my friends, are bloated and floating away.
It was half past ten but all the lights were on.
Did you read his face as blank as it was.
Well mother would sit him down as strictly where he was.
And he said...
The water turned to black as the night rolled on in.
I couldn't hear a sound as I slowly turned around.
There I saw my friends all god damn face down.
And he said...
And I'll raise my eyes.
Won't you let me raise my eyes?
Momma let me raise my eyes?
Won't you let me raise my eyes again?

I know the song meanings is something completely different, but the imagery that it compels reminds me of the book "IT."
The album "Crash of '47" is one of very few new albums (2004) that I can listen to all the way through and love every song. This song stands out for me, as quite a sad song about someone who's friends drowned. This is the most easy meaning to the song, however it could mean something else. Certianly this verse suggests this: "The water turned to black as the night rolled on in. I couldn't hear a sound as I slowly turned around. There I saw my friends all god damn face down. " All his friends drowned, however i don't know if they did it on purpose..
great song.
what does the beginning of the song mean when he says "Hey momma. can't you see I'm fucking cookin"?
I think it is just a excript from his life...he was doing something to get his mind off of it. and his mom set him off, possibly by trying to 'talk about it'
The rest of the song may be what he is saying to his mother. or not.
yeah i figured it had something to do with that but i wasnt sure. omgosh i love this song tho like the more i listen to it the more i love it
