Last Exit For the Lost Lyrics

Would you pay life's pleasure to see me
Does it hurt? - For I want you to remain
I run your hair through, in another decade
Sumerland holds me in sumerian haze

Pain in the places where the lovers mourned
Arranging the playthings up and down the hall
Forever remain, for every day
My honour remains, forever remain

Between the spaces along the wall
Appearing faces that disappear at dawn
We're getting close now, I can see the door
Closer and closer - Kthulhu calls

Forever remain, forever remain ...

You'll seek it - it'll take a while
You'll seek this - if it's a thousand miles
Take what fate brings, eternal and desire
I'll change those faces then I take their smile

We're getting close now, I can see the door
Closer and closer - or is it there at all ?
Forever remain, forever remain

This could be my last regress
Last exit for the lost

Precious to the lost...

This is a song about an addict relapsing one last time towards overdose and death, or saving himslef in the last exit for the lost, and riding towrds the sunset. Or maybe it's just the everyday of a borderline person trying to live to see another day. It is pure beauty- pain, anger, and hope, mixed in a spiky goth liquid.

"we're getting close to you, I can see the door Closer and closer, or is it there at all

Forever remain, forever remain

This could be my last regress, last exit for the lost"

This is my favorite for the fields, wondering if someone can tell the exact meaning of it.

I think it's based on the narrative of the novel (and later film with Robin Williams) of "What Dreams May Come" where the protagonist dies, passes over to the otherworld and journeys from the Summerlands ( one form of heaven) to rescue his wife who, having committed suicide in her grief, finds herself stuck and lost in a hell- realm.

His guide advises him that he only has a brief moment after locating his wife to pursuade her that she does not have to remain there; only her belief in her suroundings is keeping her trapped, but the nature...

The song is about one of the sub cults of the Cthulhu Mythos by Alastair Crowley. A follower giving themselves to the cult in return they hope to meet the beast and hasten the return of the "great old ones".

My Interpretation

The Chtulhu mythos was created by horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, not Crowley. There are many short stories and a couple of novellas that feature beings and deities from the mythos. In turn it has inspired many bands, several rather bad movies, and a few equally disappointing video games. On the while though the books are great. As for the meaning of the song there is definitely a mythos influence but I wonder if they might be a useful metaphor for something more personal. For me it has undertones of struggle against depression and suicidal thoughts, and the ultimate loss in that...
