Life Effect Lyrics

Sorry for wasting your time
Five more months on the telephone line
Hours of asking if you were fine
And saying I was fine too
Sorry but I've got to go
The birth was quick but the death is slow
There was so much I didn't know
So much I never knew about you

And so we disconnect
The room grows quiet around us
It's called the life effect
Will it always surround us?

Who made you happy last night?
I don't know his name but Christ can he fight
As I fell he told me you had a light
A light that shone inside you

I found myself a decent man now
And I love him because I can
The bravest that I've ever been
Was when I ran away from you

And so we disconnect
The room grows quiet around us
It's called the life effect
Will it always surround us?

And so we disconnect
The room grows quiet around us
Nothing left to protect
The end has finally found us

The day is almost over
It's almost time for bed
So now you've finally lost me
Rest your weary head

this song breaks my heart. i couldn't listen to it for months after my last breakup without crying.

to me, the two characters in this story had a loving relationship that the guy ended without good reason, and they are trying to remain as close as they always were. "the birth" refers to the beauty of the relationship, and "the death" is the slow process of truly breaking up. (i love that lyric because in life, it is the opposite - although i'm sure a woman going through labor would beg to differ!) so she stays by his side, hoping that he will want to be with her romantically again, but he's indecisive, and she remains hurt. time has passed though, and she has convinced herself it is best for the both of them if she moved on, even though it will break her heart: "The bravest that I've ever been was when I ran away from you."

he doesn't want to lose her, he wants her in his life. but he can't give her what she needs, and does not know if he loves her enough to keep her; it would be selfish of him. but he realizes that he is jealous, and unsure of how to deal with her being with someone new. now that she has let go of him, as hard as it was for her, she hopes that he, too, can finally let her go and rest his weary head.

what a love affair.

i think it basically its saying how things between two people have ended, but thats how life is supposed to be

WOW, this song is so sad. For the guy, he had a long-term relationship ending in betrayal and heartbreak! "The birth was quick but the death is slow": the relationship progressed quickly but died agonizing slow. But once the relationship officially dies, you can finally "rest your weary head".

this song is like a lrelationship ending. i connect to this song well.

the girl is leaving the guy for another man. with the guy heartbroken, he tries to fight the other man for taking his girl. it was hard for the girl to move on, but she thinks shes traded up.

in the end the guy tells her "its really over now, you better feel relieved"

i love how stars songs usually tell a story.

Not to ask a stupid question, but can anyone tell me why "it's called the life effect?" I don't quite get that part . . .

Cover art for Life Effect lyrics by Stars

It's called the life effect because it's a part of life. Giving the falling apart of the relationship that name just weaves it into the fabric of life, making it unavoidable and absolute.

I also think life effect may refer to the line mentioned above...

"The birth was quick but the death is slow"

so many things in life are easy to get into or begin and hard to leave or get out off.

it's the "life effect"
