I've said it once, I'll say it again. Not every Foo Fighters song is about Kurt Cobain or drugs.

This song is great and that's all there is to it.

I believe it is about death, but not Kurt's death. Just because he knew Kurt doesn't mean every song he writes is gonna be about him.

for crying out loud. this song is about Grohl being a christian rocker (which is very rare btw) and other people reject him for being a christian! just look at the line, "wait and pray youll pick on me the day i raise my hand. guess that ive been blessed but ill be damned." in this line he doesnt know how to handle with other peoples opinions about his beliefs.

I can't believe no one has commented on this song. It is one of my favorites from the new album. I think its about death, and a fear of dying young. The first verse is about life. Whether things are going good or bad, you're still alive, and experiencing these things makes you feel alive. The fact that he says they're overrated means that he know life must end eventually and hopefully there's something better than life beyond the grave. But when he says "wait and pray you'll pick on me the day i raise my hand," i think he is hoping that he doesn't die until he is ready to. "Halo, God only knows, right behind me everywhere I go" is where he talks about death chasing him. I love the way he uses the beautiful image of a halo to symbolize death instead of the cliche dark and dreary symbols. None of us know what death is like, it might be beautiful, but there's only one way to find out, and he just hopes that he can experience a full life first.

definately one of the best off the "one by one" album (not their best, i have to say...) that sounds like a good idea (about death and all), but i thought the first verse was about drugs - where it goes "Good and bad I swear ive had them both, there overrated" is like good trips and bad trips, and the bit "but isnt it fun when you get hold of one" is how he sees being on drugs... not a particularly well thought-out idea, but i thought id put it out there anyway...

It is possible that this song is actaully about the death of Kurt Cobain. Seeing how he and the lead singer of Foo Fighters were friends, it is a posibility. The Foo Fighters deny this claim but many peopel disagree and say it is actually about Cobain's death.

Ok mxmattd i think your answer is the most right. Its cool to think of death not as soom scary thing, cause i mean it really isn't, but as something that isn't bad. I think this is about a guy who wants to live life to the fullest and hes towards the end of life and knows death is there but isn't ready yet and wants to go when he is good and ready. This is not about drugs and not about kurt cobain. Not every foo song is about kurt!! My Hero is without a doubt about Kurt but not every goddamn one is!! People relax with all that!!

this song has a completely different meaning to me i remember when i got this cd and i would be driving home round 5 or so from work and the sun would be goin down and the sky had this kinda peaceful orange tint to it and i would be listening to this song it was the perfect song for the way the scenery lookedi was goin home to my girl who i have since split with after 6 yrs together and everytime i hear this song it takes me back to oct-nov 2002 when life was great.anybody else ever have songs that do that to you?
