In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Now that the "k" is in place
Where the "see" used to be
It seems that I'm ceasing to be
In a season of the old me
I wouldn't trade my place
I got no reason to be
Weathered and withering
Like in the season of the old me
Bust the lock off the front door
Once you're outside you won't want to hide anymore
Light the light on the front porch
Once it's on you're never want to turn it off anymore
And now it's on
Now it's on
Now that the lake's in place
Where the dead sea used to be
It seems that I'm ceasing to be
In the season of the old me
I wouldn't trade my place
I got no reason to be
Weathered and withering
Like in a season of the old me
Bust the lock off the front door
Once you're outside you won't want to hide anymore
Light the light on the front porch
Once it's on you're never want to turn it off anymore
And now it's on
And now it's on
And now it's on
And now it's on
Now it's on
Now it's on
Where the "see" used to be
It seems that I'm ceasing to be
In a season of the old me
I wouldn't trade my place
I got no reason to be
Weathered and withering
Like in the season of the old me
Bust the lock off the front door
Once you're outside you won't want to hide anymore
Light the light on the front porch
Once it's on you're never want to turn it off anymore
And now it's on
Now it's on
Now that the lake's in place
Where the dead sea used to be
It seems that I'm ceasing to be
In the season of the old me
I wouldn't trade my place
I got no reason to be
Weathered and withering
Like in a season of the old me
Bust the lock off the front door
Once you're outside you won't want to hide anymore
Light the light on the front porch
Once it's on you're never want to turn it off anymore
And now it's on
And now it's on
And now it's on
And now it's on
Now it's on
Now it's on

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
One of my favorite Grandaddy songs ever. Ubpeat, peppy, and yeah, inspiring. In a not-moronic way.
Does anyone know what this lines mean: "Now that the K's in place Where the C used to be"?
maybe the "k" as in "ok" as in accepting things and being ok with them
and "c" maybe as in "can't" which was his old view
I think these songs lyrics describe the exact reaction a person would get if they got on SSRI meds to overcome social anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorders.

Look at the Song lyrics in light of being about overcoming OC disorder and shyness of social anxiety or generalized anxiety disorders and every line is a tight fit.

The K is inplace where the C used to be O.C. -> O.K.
ceasing to be the old me
won't want to hide anymore

You feel more alive, more outgoing, you want to "turn your front light on" rather than hide anymore.

That's how I see it, but maybe I just need more meds, lol.
Given the album came out in 2003 I had always thought the 'K' was the 'K' in 2K, as opposed to the C in 20th century. So maybe the narrator is getting better as time moves on.

But I think I might prefer Jimbolaya's theory. And you can never get enough meds!
