Helicopter Lyrics

This song was recorded before

I am somewhere in the city
I am climbing up a fire escape
I am somewhere in the city
I am climbing up a fire escape
I have gotta save my baby
From a mess this world has made

I arrive through a window
I leave through a hole in the wall
I arrive through a window
I leave through a hole in the wall
I scramble down the stairwell
With my baby, cradle and all

Helicopter, helicopter
Let your long rope down
Let us sway into the sunset
I have done all I can do in this town

Tom Violence has taken
The wind out of my sails
Tom Violence has taken
The wind out of my sails
Helicopter has taken to breaking this dreaming spell
This song was recorded before

My mind is a-racing
My heart is prepared somehow
My mind is a-racing
My heart is prepared somehow
For that searchlight come shining
And find me under a cloud

Helicopter, helicopter
Let your long rope down
Let us sway into the sunset
I have done all I can do in this town

I think the Sonic Youth reference (Tom violence has taken) the wind out of my sails makes perfect sense if you read the lyrics to the Sonic Youth song and compare, viewing them with an eye to this one.

This song is ridiculously good. I love to sing along to it, and it gets stuck in my head all the time. I can never pick a favorite off the album, but this is one of the best.

M. Ward is a genius.

wouldn't it be hole? whole is not the same as hole. you can't go through a whole in a wall, only a hole.

Uh yeah, except you guys are wrong.

"TORN violence has taken the wind out of my sails"

It's funny how a tear will take the wind out of your sails and a Tom won't, isn't it?

@mileslivingston a tear will certainly take the wind out of YOUR sails, Miles. The words in M. Ward's lyric are definitely "Tom Violence" in reference to Sonic Youth's song from Evol (1986). As @akagoldfish has already pointed out it makes perfect sense if you relate this song to Tom Violence and consider that this song is about dreams of escape. The lyric "Helicopter has taken to breaking this dreaming spell" suggests that M. Ward has overcome his inabilty to write / create as represented by "Tom Violence".

Furthermore, "helicopter has taken to breaking this dream as well" ? Did this guy even try to listen to the song? What he's singing sounds nothing close to that. I'm going to guess he says "taken to breaking this dreaming spell"

I always heard "tell 'em violence"
