Razorblade Lyrics
In the day by day collision
Called the art of growing up
There's an innocence we look for in the stars
To be taken back to younger days
When there was no giving up
On the people we held closest to our hearts
Yeah it is you that I remember in that glowing
It is you that took my first away from me
It is you I set my standards to... to every walk of life
I haven't met another you since you were with me.
(Chorus)
A brief bout with a razorblade cut me
I freaked out, thinking people didn't love me
I watched closely as the you I knew forgot me
In letting go, I am so proud of what I've done
In a way, I failed religion
I spit the wine from mouth to cup
And I reached for something more than just your God
Uncle, you spared not your children
And while your praying hands are up
There's no forgiveness for you! You sick fuck!
It is you that I remember in their bedroom
It is you that took their first away from them
It is you they set their standards to
You wounded them for life
You were a preacher and suppose to be above men
Sing with me
(Chorus)
A brief bout with a razorblade cut me
I freaked out, thinking people didn't love me
I watched closely as the you I knew forgot me
In letting go, I am so proud of what I've done
Called the art of growing up
There's an innocence we look for in the stars

To me, the song is about he and his cousins being molested and sexually abused by his uncle (their father,) who is someone who runs around spouting about his own morals and how he is greater than other men (a preacher.) And the song is about how at first, having this happen and seeing it happen tore him apart and led him to self-harming but as he realised his world was crashing down, while the man who did it and should be punished didn't even really give a crap that he had done it was perfectly fine and it wasn't worth hurting himself over it. So he let it go, and he's proud of himself for moving on and not letting his Uncle completely tear him down.
Here is an interview with Justin Furstenfield from Blue October saying what the song means. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sx0Q7CEF3tY
It was not someone he knew.
This one makes me cry, when I found out it wasn't Justin's personal experience I was shocked. He brought out the feelings so well of someone who had experienced it, you could almost imagine yourself in his shoes. This song is amazing!
A lot of things in life are measured by your first experience doing it. Sex, many times, is one of those things.
This song is so obvious that it is about a man of a higher power molesting vulnerable children. Those children grew up thinking sex was supposed to be like that and if they didn't get it like that again, they weren't loved, and possibly after that they began to cut or slash their wrists.
This song is so powerful and can speak to anyone who has been molested by someone in their childhood, possibly by a relitive or someone they trust.
Awesome powerful song.
your a bit off, it is a more powerful man but its a priest, but they dont grow up and slash their wrist its just how they felt but they didnt do it

To me, this song is talking about a family member molesting their kids or other family members. Possibly about a preacher molesting children. Kind of a wierd topic..
god dam look at the lyrics look at interviews its about priests molesting little kids"IT IS YOU THEY SET THERE STANDARDS TO YOU WOUNDED THEM FOR LIFE YOU WERE A PREACHER!AND SUPPOSED TO BE ABOVE MEN"A PREACHER!

This song is about this priest who everybody trusts and leaves their kids with.. and the feelings of the victims of molestation. The razor-blade stands for the priest leaving a scar on his victims. It might have been his Uncle but I think that's more a metaphor for somebody that he trusted and knew. He may not forgive him ("and there's no forgiveness for you, you sick fuck.)but he tries to move on anyways (In letting go ... i am so proud of what I've done)

this song is about his cousins and him getting raped by their uncle. its a song not nessecarly to get back at him, but to reach out to other ppl and to let his anger out. what a sick guy!
its not like that, it could be his uncle but it clearly states that the molestor is a priest, since he sais"I let you go and im proud of what ive done"that makes me think it might have been an uncle, but maybe its about losing faith in god since he was raped by a priest "In a way, I failed religion I spit the wine from mouth to cup And I reached for something more than just your God Uncle, you spared not your children And while your praying hands are up There's no forgiveness for you! i think "uncle" is referring to crying "uncle" in a game, "uncle, you spared not your children"- the children are calling uncle and asking the rapist or whatever it may be to spare them but he didn't

but u bamorse1 very observant of you bro but he says you ddnt spare your children... o that actually makes sense because many "pastors" of religion see their followers as children hmmm

I think this song has got beautiful poetic diction, despite the subject matter. Especially the lines: "In a way, I failed religion I spit the wine from mouth to cup And I reached for something more than just your God Uncle, you spared not your children And while your praying hands are up There's no forgiveness for you! You sick fuck!"
The words and the way it's sung is so passionate and angry and expressive and you can really feel his pain. I think this song is one of the best examples of how beautiful Blue October's lyrics can be.
I love this song!!!
A VERY meaningful song and the story behind it, which is pretty obvious, is so sad.
I so love this song! It's my favourite from Blue October!! I also love that it isn't all over t.v. and the radio!
I think it is pretty obvious what it is about. It's sad = [
But.... I
