Lord Is It Mine Lyrics
I know that there's a reason why I need to be alone
I need to find a silent place that I can call my own
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
There's nothing to win and there's no need to fight
I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land
But it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
You don't have to win and there's no need to fight
If only I could find a way
To feel your sweetness through the day
The love that shines around me could be mine.
So give us an answer, won't you,
We know what we have to do,
There must be a thousand voices trying to get through.
I need to find a silent place that I can call my own
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
There's nothing to win and there's no need to fight
I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land
But it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
You don't have to win and there's no need to fight
If only I could find a way
To feel your sweetness through the day
The love that shines around me could be mine.
So give us an answer, won't you,
We know what we have to do,
There must be a thousand voices trying to get through.

An excellent substitute for a prayer before one goes to bed.
The song is about the daily struggles in life. The things we see and the things we deal with sometimes put a lotta strain on all of us. Deep down most people just want the simple things and find what they cherish in life and sometimes they ask the question "Oh Lord Is It Mine ?"
No doubt the song has a clear Christian favour to it, as well as 'Even in the Quietest Moments' and a few others. Hodgson is very explicit in his praying attitude, and along with atheist Rick Davies they create the artistic and thematic tension that makes Supertramp so interesting and put it to an end too.
The plain way he speaks to the Lord and the peace and calm that comes from the music speak of a spiritual reach that sums up a long search. But it's not peasant or pretentious, just open hearted and honest. And it works.
Everyone has these far out views but to me the answer is more direct. He is asking a question in each verse then asking if 'it's mine'. Example: 1st verse: "I need to find a silent place that I can call my own-- Lord is that place mine?" 2nd: "And there's many times it seems that you're the only hope in sight-- Lord is that hope mine?" 3rd: "But it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand -- Lord is it my time to understand?" 4th: "The love that shines around me could be mine-- Lord is it mine?" And he asks for answers even though he knows everyone has these questions-- will his get through? Will his be answered? Or they could be voices in his head, negative or positive, giving him conflicting answers. The love could be a lover's love he wants or love from whatever being he worships. Of course I could be wrong but it makes sense to me. Lovely song.

This is a beautiful song, according to the Bible, we should pray in public and in private, if we are the type of person that prays every day, this has special meaning, thank you for sharing
This is probably there best song but no comments????Wow. This in my opinion is a song about the last step before giving up. The last gasp. He is to the point of religon but not sure. "There must be a thousand voices trying to get through" are people praying but getting no answers. He wants control but but there must be a higher calling running the show. Davies soft piano really gives this song its greatness.
I feel hodgerson was very spiritual and Davies an atheist. Maybe a clash of heads too. I'm with Davies though.
Unfortunately no, while it might seem Christian it cannot be. Hodgson began turning in a noticeably Hindu direction while working on the album before the one this was released on.
@rambo919 I agree with you, but while he had an interest in Eastern religion, he also was raised among Christians. I think overall, Roger is 'spiritual', believing in something beyond the physical, but not set on what that is.

Lots of lines missing in the lyrics above, but the son itself is truly amazing. Touching, subtle. We all have times in which we look to anything for help, and in this case he is asking god. The song is easier to understand when you've had a situation that has left you asking god, "Why?"
Love.
He keeps asking, "Is it mine?"
Then, "If only I could find a way To feel your sweetness through the day The love that shines around me could be mine."
