I haven't heard the orginal and i wont lie lol i dont know who peter Gabriel is. But as far as it goes if i had to assume i'd say the song is about them having to leave their wives behind while they're on the road.
Clearly Peter is referring to God and his faith in Him. This song does not fit a woman. Replace LOVE with LORD, and then review the song
