Songs Of Love (Divine Comedy cover) Lyrics
Pale, pubescent beasts
Roam through the streets
And coffee shops
Their pray gather in herds
Of stiff knee-length skirts
And wide ankle socks
But while they search for a mate
My type hibernate
In bedrooms above
Composing their songs of love
Young, uniform minds
In uniform lines
And uniform ties
Run round with trousers on fire
And signs of desire
They cannot disguise
While I try to find words
As light as the birds
That circle above
To put in my songs of love
Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
So sing
While you have time
Let the sun shine
Down from above
And fill you with songs of love
Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
So let's sing
While we still can
While the sun hangs high up above
Wonderful songs of love
Beautiful songs of love
Roam through the streets
And coffee shops
Their pray gather in herds
Of stiff knee-length skirts
And wide ankle socks
But while they search for a mate
My type hibernate
In bedrooms above
Composing their songs of love
In uniform lines
And uniform ties
Run round with trousers on fire
And signs of desire
They cannot disguise
While I try to find words
As light as the birds
That circle above
To put in my songs of love
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
While you have time
Let the sun shine
Down from above
And fill you with songs of love
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
While we still can
While the sun hangs high up above
Wonderful songs of love
Beautiful songs of love

I think this is a great song, really glad Ben covered it. I think its meaning is fairly obvious though.
Frat boys run around chasing girls to have sex with them. Real lovers stay in their bedrooms writing love songs.
I'm so happy Ben Folds didn't write this song. The lyrics have such a "I'm way better than you" sound to them. It's like saying people are bad just because they don't have the same opinions as you.
I love this song actually. I don't think it sounds arrogrant at all. I think that it expresses this love that seems deeper than what others prefer.
I don't think it's arrogant. It's actually a sad song despite the upbeat tone. It seems to me that the singer is describing a happy love situation downstairs and everyone is invovled in the whole circle of life thing but the singer is alone upstairs with nobody and the job of making these people happy. it's no easy task because he's pretty much faking all these love emotions that he's not experiencing and trying form them into words as light as the birds.
this is bittersweet. so terribly accurate too. i love the piano sound in this song
"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us." - Hermann Hesse
Perhaps, if you see these lyrics as arrogant...it is because he has typified something you see within yourself? To me, this is an incredibly accurate portrait of a first-year college experience: some guys who want to be lovers, some just are chasing tail, some girls stay away, some doll themselves up as the meat for those chasing tail because they just want "it" too.
Yes, a very accurate commentary on the two types of people when it comes to "love". But the lines that interest me most are:
Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
Besides being humorous, it might have a deeper meaning. I think it's saying that success depends on what you want to achieve. Do you consider meaningless sex/relationships successful? Or do you think there should be something more?
