Goodbye Again Lyrics
I'm on the outside looking in
What do I see?
So much of this left to begin
Where would I be
Out on the outside looking in
Cover me through this night
I guess I don't know what's left to say
But hear me out
All of the dreams of yesterday
Keep breaking me down
What's on the outside can you say
Or am I getting carried away
It's in your mind, it's in your eyes
So it's goodbye again
It's way past time for one last try
So it's goodbye again
Goodbye again
I'm getting older
You know how I get
I can't decide which is the truth
At least not yet
I've got the feeling that it's you
What can be said
Alone in this world
It's in your mind, it's in your eyes
So it's goodbye again
It's way past time for one last try
So it's goodbye again
Who wants you now
Maybe somebody else
I wait around
Maybe you'll forget you were never here
Maybe forget you were ever, never here
I'm on the outside looking down
What do I see
So much of this cold in the ground
Where would I be
Out on the outside looking down
Cover me before you go
It's in your mind, it's in your eyes
So it's goodbye again
It's way past time for one last try
So it's goodbye again
You're falling out, I'm falling in
So it's goodbye again
It's way past time for one last try
So it's goodbye again
What do I see?
So much of this left to begin
Where would I be
Out on the outside looking in
Cover me through this night
But hear me out
All of the dreams of yesterday
Keep breaking me down
What's on the outside can you say

this song is a beautiful and heart-breaking account of his dying relationship. it actually explains my relationship right now, but from the other end. "it's in your mind, it's in your eyes" - my boyfriend can see that something's off with me. even though i love him, something's just not working..he can hear it in my voice, and he can see a change in my eyes. i don't look at him the same way that i used to :(. we've broken up before and gotten back together twice. he can just tell that my heart isn't in it anymore and though i don't even know how to tell him, he just knows that it's "goodbye again". "you're falling out, i'm falling in" - this guy is so deeply in love with the girl, who's falling out of love with him. i feel like in writing this song, he's just expressing his confusion, frustration and his utter heart-break at the failure of this relationship that he's invested so much in, and would do anything for. they really do love each other, but maybe it just can't work. if it's at that point where it's "way past time for one last try" he knows that what they once had can't be salvaged anymore. he'll wait around for her in hopes that she'll come back to him. "maybe you'll forget you were ever here" - he's maybe in denial - maybe she'll forget the bad and come back eventually, but either way he needs her to "cover"/comfort him before she goes. this song makes me cry :(
*"all the dreams of yesterday keep breaking me down" - he keeps thinking of all of his past dreams for the future with her in them, and breaks down because now they're shattered

*and this is the most heart-wrenching kind of breakup. no fighting, no yelling, no cheating, no anger. just utter grief due to the extinguishment of a relationship that seemed like it would last forever, and that had been so fulfilling.

maybe its about this guy wanting the best for the girl he loves. and he is not it.
its about looking at the scenario beyond a break up (whats on the outside can you say?), and knowing that they have tried their best to keep the relationship...its not worth another try anymore..so its goodbye again.. why the title? i think its not the first time they have broken up.this song may have been written after, say, the third or fourth attempt to keep the relationship...
