I don't agree. I think it's about someone wanting to be with someone they can't be with, because they're already with someone and can't compromise their morals for the other person. I think the other person feels it too, and knows how they feel, so the feelings are 'distinctly plain', and they're both suffering, so thats the 'did you wish for your pain' because they fell in love with someone who was already taken, and it's not their fault. And every time they see each other they know and feel sad so the 'solemn glance' is them looking at each other and sharing feelings but not being able to take hold of it. The 'wish i could have faltered' part and the 'i just wish we all could betray' is how the first person feels, wishing they could compromise their morals and be strong enough to be weak for love, but they can't. x

I'm pretty sure this is about wanting someone who's so completely self-involved, they're leading you on purposefully because they like the attention.

I cant believe only one person has commented on this song its fucking amazing so emotional i agree i think its about wanting someone who is unhappy with themselves and try everything but have no self esteem.
Yeh, I think it's about him wishing to be with someone however much they may be up there own arses, wishing to be with them, trying to pick out similarities with them, or in someway justifying his feelings so it doesnt feel so wrong. Its the kinda like that you don't wanna like but you can't help it, or something...
I think this song is about a couple who had something in the past, but one of them did something to end the relationship and has completetly fucked them over and they have both moved on in their seperate ways. They then meet again and the person who fucked them over still feels for them and they wish they could have changed and wishes they still had what they used to x

i agree with the previous comments that think it's about a person thinking back to a past relationship that ended because of his/her fuck-up and his/her bad behaviour towards another. regret at its purest form.
