Human Shields Lyrics

So much violence in our name
A life, a silence masked in shame

Children running in the streets
Soldier boots are on their feet
Mothers bare the burdens of our defeats
Fathers are on their knees praying for mercy

So much violence in our name
Holding me like your shield
Holding me like your shield
So much violence in our name
A life, a silence masked in shame

No more, no more, no more (no more)
No more, no more, no more (no more)
No more, no more, no more (no more)
No more, no more, no more (no more)

Holding me like your shield
Holding me like your shield
Holding me like your shield
Holding me like your shield

No more violence in our name
No more violence in our name

No more, no more, no more

This song can be taken 2 ways if you think about it It takes on a war-like stand point but if you read further into it it could also be about being with someone who just got out of an abusive relationship

"holding me like your shield" basically meaning that you had to be strong for him/her and you're basically what makes him/her feel protected "No More Violence in our name" Shows that the past is dead

Eh just a thought

I think Burton is talking about how the actions of a government do not automatically represent the standpoint of the people, but how it is the common man, who ultimately bares the brunt. A good example, being the Iraq conflict.

i see it as being more war and corporate related than anything family/relationship oriented

I think its about the US soldiers helping the civilians because they watched innocent people get shot to death by the Al-Qaeda and its also about the soldiers feeling lost after the bloodshed they witnessed

the lines;

"Mothers bare the burdens of our defeats Fathers are on their knees, praying for mercy"

is talking about how the civilians cant stop the blood shed and utter slaughter caused by the Al-Qaeda
