Angel, Won't You Call Me? Lyrics
Angel, won't you call me?
Could I be the only
Though I am a lost cause
Angel, won't you call me?
Waiting for a sweet breeze
Read it in the tea leaves
Saw them crown you May Queen
Heard you sing the sweetest sleep
But I've been so unbridled
I fled at the face of my rival
When I felt his breath at the back of my neck
Angel, won't you call me?
So here I am in corduroy
Catch it in your Polaroid
Thought it was an off night
Caught in such a warm light
But, Angel, won't you call me?
Could I be the only
Though I am a lost cause
Angel, won't you call me?
But I've been so unbridled
I fled at the face of my rival
When I felt his breath at the back of my neck
Angel, won't you call me?
Could I be the only
Though I am a lost cause
Angel, won't you call me?
Read it in the tea leaves
Saw them crown you May Queen
Heard you sing the sweetest sleep
I fled at the face of my rival
When I felt his breath at the back of my neck
Angel, won't you call me?
Catch it in your Polaroid
Thought it was an off night
Caught in such a warm light
Could I be the only
Though I am a lost cause
Angel, won't you call me?
I fled at the face of my rival
When I felt his breath at the back of my neck
Angel, won't you call me?

In my opinion, this song isn't sweet. Well, it is, but in the "endearingly creepy" found so often in the Decemberists' music.
It is about a man watching his "love" from afar- he's a stalker, in other words.
:D!!
:D!!
i sent this song to a boy i liked a lot when i was 16 and didn't get the point.

hahahah!
hahahah!
Is this not the cutest song ever?
Quite sure the last line in the first verse is "Heard you sing the sweetest lied," not "sweetest thing."
"I've been so unbridled I fled at the face of my rival when I felt his breath at the back of my neck,"
I love that so much... this is my favorite decemberists song.
where can i find this song? its not on picaresque her majesty of castaways and cutouts is it?
I've found imeem.com to find a really good resource of free online music- and I'm not advertising at all, I use it to listen to the music I hear on the radio that I haven't bought. It's pretty useful.

It's on the 5 Songs EP, the Decemberists' first release. You could probably find it on a lot of online radio sites, but idk if it's on iTunes or any other music store.

Writer, it's on 5 Songs EP
He uses corduroy here... that amuses me since corduroy was in Eli, the Barrow Boy.
love it: Waiting for a sweet breeze Read it in the tea-leaves Saw them crown you May Queen Heard you sing the sweetest thing
My friend who introduced me to The Decemberists always calls me angel so this song reminds me of him a lot.
That fact and just the simple beauty of the song makes it one of my favourites :)
Though I am a lost cause Angel, won't you call me?
That part could be a reference to a life of sin. "Fleeing from a rival" might imply Cowardice which could be taken as a sin. This is the only one I've found so far.
