Song To Hall Up High Lyrics
I know you watch over me
Father of all the past
And all that will ever be
You are the first and the last
The watcher of all that lives
The guardian of all that died
The one-eyed God way up high
Who rules my world and the sky
Northern wind take my song up high
To the Hall of glory in the sky
So its gates shall greet me open wide
When my time has come to die
Father of all the past
And all that will ever be
You are the first and the last
The guardian of all that died
Who rules my world and the sky
To the Hall of glory in the sky
So its gates shall greet me open wide
When my time has come to die

In Norse and Germanic myth the dead go to one of several places, this song is about calling to the one eyed god way up high to open the gates. Odin is the literal father of important gods, such as Thor, and All-Father to the whole of creation, divine and human. He doesn't open the gates for the gods to the mortals, he opens the gates for the mortals to enter the gods. Basically a much more spiritual an unsafe journey.
