Holy Roller Novocaine Lyrics
My darling you look lovely
I've come to lay you down
Uncover your head and submit to me
We'll make a joyful sound
I don't care if you're by yourself
Or you're all alone when you need my help
Keep that smile on your pretty face
Cause you don't have much I can't take away
Don't you worry baby
You won't feel a thing
Close your eyes
Holy Roller Novocaine
Lord's gonna get us back
I know, I know
Lord's gonna get us back
I know, I know
You'll be hearin' me comin'
But I can't come inside
I'll be out back in my white Cadillac
Won't you join me for a ride
Let me take you up to the mountain top
There I'll show all the goods I got
Don't look back keep your eyes ahead
This could be the night that the moon goes red
All the world is moanin'
And baby so am I
I'm just givin' you warning
And I'm telling you why
Lord's gonna get us back
I know, I know
I've come to lay you down
Uncover your head and submit to me
We'll make a joyful sound
I don't care if you're by yourself
Or you're all alone when you need my help
Keep that smile on your pretty face
Cause you don't have much I can't take away
You won't feel a thing
Close your eyes

I think this song is about anal sex.
"Keep that smile on your pretty face, cause you don't have much I can't take away" He's saying, "this is gonna hurt, and it'll wipe that smile off your face"
"Don't you worry baby, you won't feel a thing, close your eyes, Holy Roller Novocaine" Novocaine is a local anesthetic, and numbs pain. Would numb the pain of the rough anal sex she's about to get.
"Lord's gonna get us back..." Yes this is a religious reference, they were raised religiously, and anal sex is a sin, so he's saying how the lord will get them back for their sin.
"You'll be hearin' me cummin', but I can't cum inside, I'll be out back in my white Cadillac, won't you join me for a ride" He's "out back" which means he's doin' her from behind, and "white Cadillac" would be a condom, so when he cums, he's not going to cum inside.
"Don't look back keep your eyes ahead, this could be the night that the moon goes red" The moon is the reference to her ass, and by saying it could go red, means he could make her bleed, that's why she needs to keep her eyes ahead.
They then talk about moaning and whatnot, this song is definitely about sex, and more likely anal sex.
Don't forget the "mountain tops.." where he'll show her all the goods he's got... but she won't look back, she'll look straight ahead.. and cum in her mouth.. This song should be titled "I'm gonna get her back.."

by FAR my favorite KOL song. don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those OBtN haters (i still listen Sex on a daily basis), but their new stuff just doesn't sound as dirty and raw as their older stuff. And that's what they've always been known and loved for. But now with the commercial success of OBtN, one of two things will happen. 1) They will continue to make radio-friendly jams 2) They will say fuck it, we've made a lot of money and let's do things our way now. I, personally, hope the latter is the road they take. But something in me says that they're going to be like anyone else in their position and take the money. Anyways, still love KOL and adore the song!
I agree with you, and I too don't hate the new material. Hell, it's how i found out about them but I fell more in love with their older sound. The raw, ass-kicking, southern, dirty sound they had was rocking. Wish they'd do more of that.

this is apparently one their most personal songs. something they felt strongly about. rumour has it it's about a priest or religous figure that takes advantage of his power/role to seduce women and take advantage of them when they're vulnerable.
Caleb Followill - "It's a true story about this preacher ... he kind of, you know, uses the power he has and takes advantage of these women that are basically at his service because of who he is. And so the whole song is kind of the way of him hanging this in your face and telling you 'Do it for this reason' when really he's just trying to pull the wool over your eyes."
Makes sense thanks

good god, what I wouldn't give for kol to release something like this again.
i didn't know about the priest business i always just thought the song was about rape.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the mountaintop reference, I'm thinking is when he'll pull out to titt***ck her, then she'll see all the goods he got.

A 'holy roller', apart from its slang meaning as a joint, is also 'used as a disparaging term for a member of any of various religious denominations in which spiritual fervor is expressed by shouts and violent body movements'. That might have something to do with the song's message, and probably more to do with it than if by 'holy roller' Caleb simply meant a joint.
Maybe 'holly roller Novocaine' is another way of saying 'blind faith'. It's a reference to how people numb or ignore their consciences in order to do what they perceive as in service to their church (or a particular perverted pastor, in this song's case...).
