Pawn Shoppe Heart Lyrics
I found my heart
In a pawn shop, baby
You took me for dead - dead
By the way - you still
I am way past tales
I'm bored and I'm crazy
You took all my good love
And gave it all away
I've been on the backstreet
I'm all alone
I've been on the hotseat
I'm gone - I'm gone
Sweet little love of mine
Take all you can
I'm your pawn shop lover
I'm your pawn shop, broken-heart man
With all your good looks
I still have nothing
Breaking the whip on my back like a man
Still have nothing
Take everything you want
Take all you can
I'm your pawn shop lover
I'm your pawn shop, broken-heart man
In a pawn shop, baby
You took me for dead - dead
By the way - you still
I am way past tales
I'm bored and I'm crazy
You took all my good love
And gave it all away
I'm all alone
I've been on the hotseat
I'm gone - I'm gone
Sweet little love of mine
Take all you can
I'm your pawn shop lover
I'm your pawn shop, broken-heart man
I still have nothing
Breaking the whip on my back like a man
Still have nothing
Take everything you want
Take all you can
I'm your pawn shop lover
I'm your pawn shop, broken-heart man

i love this song - esp the huuuggeee led zep-esque bass line at the beginning.oh! and way jason sings "ive been on the backstreet"! thats just hot s***!
Okay, first of all, the fifth line is
"I'm way past tense"
Which is an awesome double entendre (I'm really tense AND past tense as in the verb tense)
For an awesome band.
There's more than these lyrics to the song - it's a nine minute track, and after the conclusion of these lyrics around 3:53, there's something of a 3:00+ pause. Then, you get the popping of a record before the following comes in, as near as I can interpret it:
Oh, she made me wear it Those young girls who do worry Wearing the same old shiny dress But when she is worried Try a little tenderness You know she's waiting Just anticipating Things she'll never possess But while she's the waiting Try a little tenderness That's all you gotta do It's not just sentimental, no no no ??? But she suffered last spoke so gentle It makes it easy to bear You won't regret it, no no no Young girls that don't forget it Love is their only happiness But its so easy All you gotta do is try a little tenderness Try a little tenderness All you gotta do is bear Just squeeze her Don't tease her Never leave her Just squeeze her Don't tease her Never leave her Gotta hold her Try a little tenderness
{ unintelligable }
The 'try a little tenderness' lyrics are an obvious reference (theft, even) from the clasic Otis Redding song "Try a Little Tenderness."
Interesting.
A song about giving someone your heart, and watch them throw it away like it doesn\'t matter any more.... Moving, and reminds you loves a bitch...
I read in an interview how jason was talking about Detroit being full of pawn shops and he once saw a wedding ring ring in there and it made him really sad, as though it was a broken heart, hence the album title.
His howling is fantastic, you feel in in your gut.....
I had to make an account just to comment on this.
The end of Pawn Shoppe Heart is not thievery. It is most definitely the exact same lyrics as Otis Redding's song "Try A Little Tenderness".
Laguna72: it's hard to hear what Stollsteimer's saying because he does the song so differently from the original, but the lyrics are exactly the same. He didn't just reference the song with the line 'try a little tenderness' it is a cover and there is no theft whatsoever.
Jason Stollsteimer is very much influenced by Otis Redding. If you listen to "Sound of Terror" on their debut album, Lack Of Communication, you will, after the break, hear Lauren Wilcox singing another Otis Redding song "Bring It On Home To Me". The Von Bondies didn't steal anything. Jason has said he's influenced by Otis Redding and at the end of the last track on both of their studio albums, they've always done an Otis Redding cover.
I always thought it was "way past tense" not "way past tales". In fact it was one of my favourite lines of the whole song. Way past tense. As in, "I am so agitated that I am way beyond using the word "tense" to describe how I feel."
