Telephone Wires Lyrics
Lean in close and speak to me low
Tell me things you want me to know
'Cause I want to be the one you need to lean to
Speak to me low
Regrettful it's the time of year for letting go
I'm wasting all my time 'cause you just tease me
Please leave me alone
Scared of the feeling of you coming home
I'm leaning out the open windows looking into the alley below
Rooftops black and the moon's hanging low
And the telephone wires that carry the sound
Stretch across the sky and under the ground
And I will be here and you'll come down and speak to me low
Speak to me low
And I'll pretend that it's ok
We'll just be friends so the wires say
But I'll be here when you come back and speak to me low
Speak to me low
Leaning out the open window
Leaning out the open window

that really blows, yellowstar. i can relate to this song, and i can relate to what happened to you
hahaha fucking germany!
I was still in love with my ex, and we were still "together" in a sense, but he was hung up on some girl in Germany and went to visit her. I knew when he got back that I wanted to solidify things, either we were officially back together, or it was over completely. During this time I first heard Mirah, and specifically fell in love with this song that matched up 100%.
This song is just too fitting for my life. I just started seeing this girl but we're both headed off to college in a month and I want to be with her but I know i'm just going to be hung up on her when we both have to leave.

"I'm wasting all my time 'cause you just tease me Please leave me alone" It's scary how much I can relate to that right now. This song is so good.
honestly, i think this song is more about abuse. speak to me low? thats kind of like speaking 'down' to someone. low...down. yea. most abusive relationships involve the abuser telling the victim what to wear, how to act, who to be...aka 'Tell me things you want me to know.' the narrator stays with the person to cling to how it used to be. how they used to love her. the narrators at a crossroads. shes in love, but shes scared of her love. shes scared of him coming home and hitting her, abusing her, etc. so she hangs out the window and her final decision seems friendly, nice, peaceful to her. she imagines him coming home and finding the body and being upset because now he has to deal with the body. but everything will be ok because now he cant hurt her.
i think its more about a long distance relationship that's fallen apart, but they still love each other "scared of the feeling of you coming home" either because, it will hurt to see them when it isnt the same anymore or because they will just leave again and the telephone wires, the fact that her relationship with this girl (presumably, since mirah is in fact openly gay) has diminished to something that is restricted to talking on the phone

I think the narrorator is in love with a person who takes advantage of their relationship. I think she's the person's booty call, and she's sick of it.
I thought the part "scared of the feeling of you coming home" refered to her knowing she'd give into the person, but not wanting to.
She wants to break away, but doesn't know how.
That was just my interpretation, anyway.
I think its pretty obvious the song is about some form of abuse though. It might be physical, but my thoughts were that it was more about abuse of the relationship they had.
