Expresso Love

It seems to me knopfler reveals two great truths about relationships and the human experience.

1. Feeling close to someone and having fun feels pretty damn good. Whether its a profound love or an infatuation with a good friend that is being reciprocated. She "calls him" and "loves him so tender" so for the most part she's into him. Thus they are close. So yea, we are social creatures and evolutionarily driven to sex so this kind of relationship is pretty much cocaine for the soul. Who cares if she's the one. This is what life is about. Chasing after the amazing feeling of closeness and exciting experiences with other human beings. 2.No matter how much cocaine for the soul is the bomb diggity, we secretly always crave her to be that profound love we've tasted once before. But this time the chemistry will be there and it will last forever. That closeness, that understanding this beautiful person shares with you isn't fleeting like a caffeine buzz. Its forever.

its about him a girl who are very passionate about each other, and may seem like a flash in the pan romance, but is shaping out to be more. its not just an Expresso Love, a love that gives you a boost but doesn;t last, it could be more than that, but it all depends. either way, he doesn't care, he likes it.

I definitely like the phrase "espresso love." Here is how to understand the true meaning of the metaphor:

1.) Get a job at a cafe. 2.) Be scheduled for a morning shift. 3.) Come in, open up, drink a double shot of espresso. 4.) In a half an hour, drink another single shot (or a double if you are feeling brave.) 5.) Repeat step four every half hour until you feel you truly grasp the concept of a proper espresso buzz.

While much more temporary, it is distressingly similar to the feeling you get in the beginning of a relationship. The only downside is that straight espresso tastes like a tiny civilization having a chemical war on the back of your tongue. Oh well.

The song I love the most since I was a child. Full of similitudes "I was made to go with my girl. Like a saxophone was made to go with the night" , Wonderful song, lyrics, solos, rythm. Best band ever!

I always thought this song was about sex with a prostitute that he has a crush on. No offense to anyone.

Knopfler is totally biting Springsteen's style in this song, but that doesn't stop it from being a freaking amazing five minutes of music.

The riff actually came from a song Knopfler wrote after his break up from girlfriend Holly Vincent. He was staying with his manager, Ed Bicknell, in Bicknell's flat in the Barbican, and he wrote a song, 'Suicide Towers': 'Sitting up here in Suicide Towers, Days and days, hours and hours. I'm getting out of here, I'm going out of the door, Ain't going out of no window.' He must have decided not to use that, but turned it into Expresso Love. He once heard someone say the words 'Hey, maestro' - he was passing a bus stop in America, and a kid got onto a bus and said "Hey, Maestro!" to the driver, and Knopfler thought it was a great phrase and decided to use it in a song.
