Expresso Love Lyrics
She gets the sun in the daytime
Perfume in the dusk
And she comes out in the night time
With the honeysuckle musk
Because she smells just like a rose
And she tastes just like a peach
She got me walking where the wildlife goes
I'd do anything to reach her
And she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl
crazy for the girl
She call me just to talk
She's my lover, she's a friend of mine
She says hey mister, you wanna take a walk in the wild west end
Sometime
And I get trouble with my breathing
And she says boys don't know anything
But I know what I want
(I want a taste) Yes I want everything
‘Cause she was made in heaven
And heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Yes heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
See I'm, crazy for the girl
crazy for the girl
Well I feel so good 'cause I feel so good
And I feel so good 'cause it feels so right
I was made to go with my girl
Just like a saxophone was made
To go with the night
And she can raise one eyebrow
Put her hand on my hip
And I close one eye now
Sweat on her lip
Oh and I surrender to the fever
And I surrender to the will of the night
She love me so tender I got to believe her
Love? Expresso love's alright
‘Cause she was made in heaven
And heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this expresso love
You know I'm, crazy for the girl
crazy for the girl
I don't want no sugar in it
Thank you very, very, very
wired up on it all fired up on it
Expresso touch
Hey maestro, expresso now
Hey maestro, she said expresso now
Is this another one, just like the other one
It's just another one, just like the other other one
Hey maestro expresso

It seems to me knopfler reveals two great truths about relationships and the human experience.
Fucking love Dire straits. Killer lyrics. Jammin insturmentals. Best band ever.
@robbykirby I agree brother. Phenomenal lyricist and the band is killer. Loudest concert I ever saw. 1985. Blew my mind!

its about him a girl who are very passionate about each other, and may seem like a flash in the pan romance, but is shaping out to be more. its not just an Expresso Love, a love that gives you a boost but doesn;t last, it could be more than that, but it all depends. either way, he doesn't care, he likes it.
@Rodan2000 she was made in heaven!

amazing guitar solo in this gem of a song !
I definitely like the phrase "espresso love." Here is how to understand the true meaning of the metaphor:
1.) Get a job at a cafe. 2.) Be scheduled for a morning shift. 3.) Come in, open up, drink a double shot of espresso. 4.) In a half an hour, drink another single shot (or a double if you are feeling brave.) 5.) Repeat step four every half hour until you feel you truly grasp the concept of a proper espresso buzz.
While much more temporary, it is distressingly similar to the feeling you get in the beginning of a relationship. The only downside is that straight espresso tastes like a tiny civilization having a chemical war on the back of your tongue. Oh well.
The song I love the most since I was a child. Full of similitudes "I was made to go with my girl. Like a saxophone was made to go with the night" , Wonderful song, lyrics, solos, rythm. Best band ever!
I always thought this song was about sex with a prostitute that he has a crush on. No offense to anyone.
Knopfler is totally biting Springsteen's style in this song, but that doesn't stop it from being a freaking amazing five minutes of music.
completely agree with Rodan. the alchemy version is amazing too
i initially thought it was a about harlot who he falls in love with, thus expresso love. However, i also agree with Rodan2000
my favorite line; Heaven’s in the world
My favorite line is the simplest: "Well I feel so good 'cause I feel so good." I just love that line.

The riff actually came from a song Knopfler wrote after his break up from girlfriend Holly Vincent. He was staying with his manager, Ed Bicknell, in Bicknell's flat in the Barbican, and he wrote a song, 'Suicide Towers': 'Sitting up here in Suicide Towers, Days and days, hours and hours. I'm getting out of here, I'm going out of the door, Ain't going out of no window.' He must have decided not to use that, but turned it into Expresso Love. He once heard someone say the words 'Hey, maestro' - he was passing a bus stop in America, and a kid got onto a bus and said "Hey, Maestro!" to the driver, and Knopfler thought it was a great phrase and decided to use it in a song.
