The Prize Of Beauty Lyrics

I cannot turn my life unto you.

A storm of ebony hair.
A hail of wickedness.
Handsome as a God.
Wild and shameless.
Given the prize of beauty.
Image of wretchedness.
Divine like no other.
Kiss the poison breast.
Flamed like the sun.
Lives made undone.
Words soft as snow.
Souls claimed and won.
An opiate drugged haze.
Beds of shapeless dust.
Cries all night.
Dreams of my filthy lust.
Lair of hopelessness.
Mires of sorrow.
Never fails.
Our lives are borrowed.
Hold fast my soul.

She waits for me in my dreams.
Every night misery brings.
Haunts my day. Haunts my wake.
Oh, my lord can't you feel her grow,
inside of me. Tearing my mind.
For once my lord please help me
Believe in you.

She claims the day in her name.
Over you and over me.
We dare to be ourselves.
Next to her and all her war.
She comes our way and takes the day,
From my hands, it is her way.

The milk of woman fill up my
Branching veins and lonely heart.
Trembling children she adores,
and gives flight to her art.
When April sheds her fitful rain,
Glory be, we may live again.

Truly my hope will perish within her.
Truly as always I cannot forgive her.
Cruelly she keeps me near to her.
Forever to this day.

I can't believe no one has commented on this, it's one of the best MYDB songs. Any who it's about a woman who uses her beauty to her advantage... but that's only the most obvious part of it...

Ok, maybe I'm reading too much into this because of things that have happened in my life, but here goes.

It seems to me that he was in love with this beautiful woman and she was in love with him. But then it seems like she became a Christian ("Souls claimed and won/ An opiate drugged haze") and so they couldn't be together. He is so desperate without her and loves her so much that he wants to be a Christian too, even though that is anathema to him (For once my lord please help me Believe in you"). And he can't stop thinking about her and he's so lonely without her and it's so horribly, wonderfully sad.

I'd agree with you except for this verse doesn't agree with your theory: "She claims the day in her name. Over you and over me. We dare to be ourselves. Next to her and all her war. She comes our way and takes the day, From my hands, it is her way. "

Ad Nauseam, you're pretty close. The woman he refers to is indeed someone he either loves or admires. It appears that she is a Christian or a member of some other organized religeon as well. Perhaps something happened in his life that made him resent God and all belief in him. He doesn't seem to go into details about it. This woman appears to be trying to convince him to join her religeon, even against his will. Despite a lot what is said, he sounds like he bitterly hates her, yet is still lured to her by her beauty ("A storm of ebony hair/ A hail of wickedness/ Hansome as a god/ The wild and shameless/ Given the prize of beauty/ image of wretchedness").

It's a really sad song. The sudden change of guitar distortion to clean, slow picking really complements how Aaron's vocals affect the atmosphere. Stainthorpe does an incredible job here. He screams in saturated rage, blowing his lungs out over what has been done to him. And just when his wrath reaches a pinnacle, its is as if he simply snaps, and his voice is reduced to a pathetic whimper, completely distraught and overpowered by this woman's influence.
