Dignity and Money Lyrics

Damage control.
They're so thoroughly modern.
We'll tell you how it goes
It's not a serious problem.
So we can be convinced
and we can get convinced,
but either the truth, it's bound to get twisted.
You can take a break when the fate of the world is
waiting on your next decision.

So I focused on what I've been promised
and they tore us open,
bled us dry of our dignity and money.

It's all under control
so keep holding it together.
Hell, things just fall apart,
but you know we can't wait forever.

So come and try to keep, keep this stupid grin short
so you can keep your job.
They'll never know the difference.
Keep it going one day,
a month, a year or more.
Ignore that sinking feeling.

And I focused on what I've been promised
and they tore us open,
bled us dry of our dignity and money.

We should've seen it coming.
We should've seen it coming.
We should've seen it coming.
We left ourselves wide open.

So I focused on what I've been promised
and they tore us open,
bled us dry of our dignity and money.

So I focused on what I've been promised
and they tore us open,
bled us dry of our dignity...

Hell, maybe we could all retain a bit our ourselves.
Remember who we were and keep on moving.
Put things in perspective.
Try and learn a lesson.
It's not life or death,
it's only business.

Hey does anyone else realize that the "we should've seen it coming" part is actually from a TBS song. The Ballad for San Villuenava.....i thought that was pretty interesting...if you know what I mean you'll see..great song too!

I hate to sound like I'm just being redundant in regards to all Straylight Run song, but this song is about the experiences in Taking Back Sunday. Yeah, a lot of the older SLR songs are written about that, but TBS was a big factor in regards to SLR. Anyway, back in the demo days, this song was also known as "The Machine Goes On Without Us." The machine = Taking Back Sunday (you'll see that reference in other places as well.) Just thought I'd throw that out there.

"So come and try to keep, keep this stupid grin short so you can keep your job. They'll never know the difference. Keep it going one day, a month, a year or more. Ignore that sinking feeling." that sounds like it could go out to adam and the rest of the guys from tbs, but who knows for sure.

I heard that Adam was dating John's sister(Michelle), cheated on her, John got pissed and he and Shaun left the band. They later formed a new band with drummer Will Noon from Breaking Pangaea once they split. Michelle was later added to the band. Straylight Run now exists.Fred Mascherino(check spelling) is now lead guitar and does vocals for TBS. I've also heard Adam was being a dick prior to this incident but I may be wrong.

For whatever reason I've thought of it as talking about how companies control the country, and how capitalism effects us. How the top takes our dignity and money. How they lie to us, how they keep us under control. all that good stuff.

It's kind of like brand new's "good to know...(another 13 words)", it's about how record companies are never working for the best interests of artists.

actually, its "come on try and keep this keep this, you can GRIT YOUR TEETH and do your job....", not "this stupid grin short"
