    General CommentI feel that this song is quite evil for lying to someone who loved You and You playing with his/her heart for some times, the tone is sweet yet the lyrics is ironic. This is the true liar of all. I Love this song, one of the best

    General CommentI know this song is about a romantic relationship, but to me it's always held a very special meaning.
    I came from a fairly complicated family with an abusive father and remember my stepmother always defending him and justifying his antics. They had another much younger child besides myself, and I think at one point, the fact that she was hurting her child and herself by justifying his actions troubled me much more than the fact that I was also being hurt (directly) by her egging my him on. I was always their scapegoat, and I started to realize how awfully twisted my situation was around the time Keane released Hopes and Fears, especially with me having to lie to my friends about it all and having to keep my problems to myself.
    This song really helped me through it though. It gave me hope that there *would* be a last time; that I wouldn't have to put up with this forever and that my stepmother and stepbrother could fend for themselves and I didn't have to worry about them because it simply wasn't healthy. They were making a choice to stay, but I didn't have to and certainly was not going to.

    Anyhow, this probably sounds incredibly contrived... I've always wanted to put it out there, though.

    General CommentI think his saying "this is the last time" is him basically fooling himself, or trying to - he knows that he is weak and will give in again, and still be there next time she needs to fall on him. "years make everything right" implies that they've been together for so long that it doesn't bother him anymore, hence "no I don't mind".

    It's strange though, because the lyrics to the verses are really dark, yet the melody is very perky and 'up'. Maybe he knows that the relationship is bad for him because all he does is support her, but he doesn't mind because he loves her.

    General Commentfrom the 'he's lying' point of view: she let him get away with it all the time ('these things they'll go away, 'years make everything allright''), but now this is the last time he will have to lie cause he's going away from her ('one last tender lie and then i'm out of this place). 'Something I wasn't sure of but I was in the middle of' could be about him being in love with someone else, but i'm not sure.

    General CommentI think the line "and i no i don't mind" is referring to the fact that he knows that the relationship is about to end ("the last time you fall on me for anything you like") but he's not sad about it, not because it was a bad relationship but because he still enjoyed it while it lasted. In fact, i get the sense that he would like to stay close with this person, but knows that that will take time ("and years make everything alright"). wonderful song.

    General Commentyeha, i think it combines the fact that the relationship has been about beign there for each other 'you fall on me for everything you like' gives me the image that when she falls he catches her..like literally. The bit about 'this is the last time that i will show my face...etc' i think is sayign that she wants the relationship to end, not him, but he'll pretend that's nto how he feels, so as to make her feel better... and then when the chorus comes in i agree with the above point..that he will continue to be there for her in the future, no matter what.
    amazing song ... if u saw the glastonbury footage of this being performed..you'll see how maazingly it was done. :D

    General Commentto me it seems his girlfriend has been lying to him for a long time (i can't really tell from the lyrics if he's been lying or his girlfriend). but the chorus could be about the last time he will let her get away with it. 'you fall on me for anything you like' and 'years make everything allright' could be she trying to make it up to him.
