When You're Gone Lyrics
Well I just can't seem to pity
'Cause my heart's to numb to feel
And the smile does all the talking
Though the pain is all that's real
With the way that you keep screaming
I can hardly hear to think
And I feel the bridges burning
Underneath my feet
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go Ooh
When you're gone
I just want to stay dreaming
No I just don't want to wake
Why can't we keep on sailing
Across this emerald lake
My forehead is still bleeding
From the thorns I used to wear
And I'm left alone and beaten
For this cross I choose to bear
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go Ooh
When you're gone
Well I finally found what I'm looking for
Though the road's still long and the light is still far
But I finally found what I'm looking for
Well I finally found what I'm looking for
Though the road's still long and the light is still far
But I finally found what I'm looking for
Well the voices fall like timber
And the fear it pours like rain
And my heart is crushed to cinders
Underneath this kind of pain
Well there is no resolution
When the revolution's dead
So I'm left with no solution
For the voices in my head
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go, Ooh
When you're gone
'Cause my heart's to numb to feel
And the smile does all the talking
Though the pain is all that's real
With the way that you keep screaming
I can hardly hear to think
And I feel the bridges burning
Underneath my feet
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh

This song makes me thing and then almost want to cry. They really must have gone through so much. So much respect I give these guys. I LOVE THESE GUYS!!
This song is obviously about hardships, and wanting to overcome them. I feel that this song is a very religiously-oriented song, not only with the "and my forehead is still bleeding... " part, but with the chorus. Throughout hardships in life, many people tend to turn to God (or whichever diety they worship) and ask he/she/it where they have gone. To me this song is about finding your faith in the hard times ("well i finally found what i'm looking for / though the road's still long and the light's still far") but knowing that you still have a long way to go until things are better, and maybe you do need that faith in your life to get through.
I love the bridge, "well I finally found what i'm looking for" part.
after reading i assume he is religious, so maybe someone with a better understanding of the bible could elaborate better, but i will take a stab anyway.
the order of this seems to tell a story. first he is questioning and waiting ("How the road feels so long", "Where do you go when your gone?") his life is looked as a dream ("I just want to stay dreaming, No I just don't want to wake") wake meaning death. but then he is tested and passes ("Im left alone and beaten For this cross I choose to bear") which leads him to truth ("Well I finally found what I'm looking for") voices could be the saved dying? ("Well the voices fall like timber") as things turn for the worse ("And the fear it pours like rain") he dies and is saved ("And my heart is crushed cinders") 'ashes' ("But where do you go, When you're gone?") he's asking will you go to heaven...
this is my favorite hanson song, shame they dont write like this more often and most of their career seems like a long pop love song.. the new album is good, and i never thought i would be complimenting this band, so i just wanted to mention i hope this trend continues. he will have better luck attracting the young adult feild but may lose younger female fans.
To me this is about taking on a big responsibility, and wondering whether what you are doing is right.
