Optimist Or Pessimist Lyrics

chaos, the rule of the game
spinning as optimist fades
confusion becomed law
eclipsing hope, the pessimist said

if you want to change the world, forget it
the future's not in our hands
if you want to change the world, forget it
the pigs already set in

freedom has bee stripped away
change it the corrosion fades
slowly we turn
as the pessimist sets these pointed words

if you want to change the world, forget it
the future's n ot in our hands
if you want to change the world, forget it
the pigs already set in

the optimist understands why the world's gone down the drain
the pessimist never bends, constricting thoughts in vain
from the pessimist's point of view there's nothing we can do
as I paint this picture gray and taste the pain
I'll play the optimist

The only world I know is the world I cling to
It's a world that I'd want to save
optimist or pessimist, what am I suppose to be

if you want to change the world, forget it
the future's n ot in our hands
if you want to change the world, forget it
the pigs already set in

the optimist understands why the world's gone down the drain
the pessimist never bends, constricting thoughts in vain
from the pessimist's point of view there's nothing we can do
as I paint this picture gray and taste the pain
I'll play the optimist

This one is quite obvious, and one I can definitely relate to. If you have a clear understanding of what is wrong with the world - ie the profit system - you are called a 'pessimist'. But if you know how the world could be put right - by abolishing the profit system and creating a communist society - you are an optimist.

What in the hell are you talking about? There's no mention of communist garbage anywhere in that song.

these lyrics can't possibly be right, i have tried like crazy to hear the "forget it" but it's just not there. anyway, the meaning of this song is rather apparent. if you only ackowledge what is wrong with the world you are no better than the wrong. but if you know that it can be change and can take the bad with the good, you are the "optimist."

"the pesimist never bends; consticting thoughts in vain." the pessimist will never bend outside of what he believes, unlike the optimist, who understands whats wrong with the world, ex = "the optimist understands why the world's gone down the drain"

i rest my case.

I don't think he's a communist! I think he's just trying to say that he's more of an optimistic because he believes that there's hope, and he believes that as long as you understand WHY things are bad, you can fix it. But he's saying that it's hard not to turn into a pessimist and just give up on the world. Personally, I'm a pessimist. But he sees things different. But he can see how you can be pessimistic, too, but he's decided to be an optimist and TRY to change things for the better. And he seems to believe tat as long as we fix what's wrong with oursleves, we'll fix our problems. Personally, I don't think we CAN change what's wrong with us as a race. It's just two different ways to see it and he chooses to be optimistic about it.

This song's basic message is that you can only increase your odds in life, if that makes any sense.
