The Warming Sun Lyrics

In a dream
You were sitting there waiting by the door for me
And I got the opportunity
To experience the experience once again
How it could have maybe been

But in real life
You're in another world
You're with another guy
Who doesn't have to cheat
And never has to lie
And all that stuff I didn't get
Comes so easy to him
He doesn't even have to try

But do you ever ask yourself
How it could have maybe been

I haven't been that bad
But I haven't been that good
Overmisunderstood
Oh I wish I really could
Enjoy the warming sun
Enjoy a warm someone
And end the need to hide
Away alone inside

No I haven't been that bad
But I haven't been that good
Overmisunderstood
Oh I wish I really could
Enjoy the warming sun
Enjoy a warm someone
And end the need to hide
Away alone inside

In a dream
You were sitting there waiting by the door for me

lurajoonami, you've got it all wrong. You're the bastard who's in someone else's fog.

I'm surprised there are no comments on this yet. Perhaps because the lyrics are relatively straightforward?

The second-to-last chapter in the story that is Sumday, The Warming Sun is an emotional look back at what might have been.

He has a dream that he is back together with an ex girlfriend, as if they never split up. Things are good, but the harsh reality is that they are not together. She is off with somebody "better".

He obviously still has feelings for her, but wonders if she ever thinks about him. The good ol' "What if..."

The feelings of isolation and loneliness are overwhelming. If only things were like in the dream...

probably one of the best epic songs of all time- reminds me of eternity and the flaming lips and pink floyd bastard children

this is my theme song. i am definitely overmisunderstood.

i like how it starts "in a dream..." there is always that time when maybe we could have done something different and maybe what is only a dream now could have been a reality had things turned out differently.

being 'overmisunderstood', then just wishing he could be normal and 'enjoy the warming sun' wow, great song. i wish more people would comment on grandaddy songs.

this song is perfect. and i think it's worth it to note the last line that is repeated in a very quiet whisper at the very end:

i said hey, you, get out of my fog

yeah, might that line be referencing the "hey (hey) you (you) get offa my cloud" line from the rolling stones? Perhaps in that sense he could be directing the line towards the other man who has basically stolen or inhabited his dream (ie: cloud or fog) of being with this girl. It could be as if he were snarling in that drunken whisper, "hey, you, quit living my dream," which comes off in a sort of bitter, pathetic, romantic way like the rest of the song.

Easily the best track for me off Sumday - lovely. Straightforward. Standout. Just listening to fambly cat now for the first time - sounds good so far...

My god, such vivid images this song paints. No band makes me feel as nostalgic as Grandaddy does. Lytle is a freaking genius. (not actual genius, just a freaking one)

i thought the last line in the song was - "Hey, you... get out of my bar" i'm probably wrong but i think that would make more sense becasue i picture some guy at a bar who is depressed and is drinking to cure his depression.
