Gravity Lyrics

Gravity plays favorites--I know it 'cause I saw
Honest to God, officer, it's awful.
Down at work I'm getting too familiar with the floor
Showing off my talents by the mouthful

Hate to break it to you, but its out of my control
Forces go to work while we are sleeping
If I could attack with a more sensible approach
Obviously that's what I'd be doing

Now
Necks are cracking sideways
Hit me from the back side
I am on the white side
You are on the black side
Cut a piece that's bite size
Shoot me from my good side
If you got a straight line
This would be a good time

Gravity works slowly--if you notice it at all
Some of us are getting mighty lucky
If you had to live with this, you'd rather lie than fall
You think I can't fly? Well, you just watch me.

Now
Necks are cracking sideways
Hit me from the back side
I am on the thin side
You are on the fat side
Cut a piece thats bite size
Shoot me from my bad side
If you got a straight line
This would be a good time

The sky is always falling down on me
So officer, forgive me please!

I heard another interpretation of this song - that it's about drinking/drunk driving.

It explains a lot if you think about it - why she's talking to a police officer (drunk driving), that she has no control over gravity (it "plays favourites" - she keeps falling over because she's drunk).

It also explains why she's reciting the alphabet and the "right foot left foot" (they're making her walk in a straight line and say the alphabet to test if she's drunk or not).

"Trading in my talents by the mouthful" I also used to think that this line was about a blow job, but it also could be in reference to alcohol.

Anyway, this is only one interpretation that just makes a lot of sense to me. Cara

I have to agree with you.

I honestly thought this was about drunk driving. And the part where everyone thinks she's referencing a blow job I simply thought she was talking about drinking alcohol. Maybe it's just because i'm an alcoholic and i've seen this happen to my friends before as well, but I certainly feel that I traded in a lot of time, and talent just to drink a part of my life away. And shoot me from my good side, I thought she meant when they take your picture when they put you in the drunk tank. Which i've also experienced, unfortunately. And even the part where she says forces go to work while we are sleeping, I thought she was referring to blacking out because when you blackout you can't remember what you did.

I think this song is about the goverment. Alot of the lines make believe that. Especially this one.

forces go to work while we are sleeping

If you really think hard about it. It kinda fits...

I hear you ups, but am I the only one who thinks of giving a blow job when she sings,

"down at work i'm getting too familiar with the floor trading in my talents by the mouthful"

? Heh...

I agree! Bassically most of this song is about prostitution in my opinion

No, i got the blowjob-impression too, but i thought i was just being perverted. ^^;;

maybe shes getting arrested cause she got her job by sleeping with the boss guy. and shes trying to explain it. btw, this isn't actually xranidxrainbowx its her sister

Cover art for Gravity lyrics by Dresden Dolls, The

it's mean to give you the impression of a blowjob. and the sister of xrancidxrainbowx was right. i think that in general, the song is about a girl who feels helpless and knows that many people would not consider what she does and how she does it right, but she feels as if it is not her fault that she is who she is. "if i could attack with a more sensible approach obviously thats what i'd be doing."

also, the lines before those saying, "hate to break it to you but its out of my control forces go to work while we are sleeping" further shows my idea. again, she does not necessarily like how her life turned out, but it happened slowly before she realized what was happening and now she feels as if she cannot get out of the life she has chosen.

then again, i have come to the conclusion that all dresden dolls songs always have at least 2 interpretations. there is the literal one, and then there is always another deeper meaning, and often more than one. they leave it so that you can see it the way you want to see it. that is what makes them genius.
