Man of the Hour Lyrics

Tidal waves don't beg forgiveness
Crashed and on their way
Father he enjoyed collisions; others walked away
A snowflake falls in may.
And the doors are open now as the bells are ringing out

'Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow
Goodbye for now.

Nature has its own religion; gospel from the land
Father ruled by long division, young men they pretend
Old men comprehend.

And the sky breaks at dawn; shedding light upon this town
They'll all come â??round
Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow
Good bye for now.

And the road
The old man paved
The broken seems along the way
The rusted signs, left just for me

He was guiding me, love, his own way
Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow
As the curtain comes down
I feel that this is just goodbye for now

Just because a song was written for one purpose does not mean it could apply well in another. I think it's pretty clear that Man of the Hour was written for and about Big Fish (an excellent movie), but it's a good enough song to be used in many, many other circumstances.

this song is about your dad trying to set you up for the rest of your life and how they spent the best parts of his life doing it

And the road The old man paved The broken seams along the way The rusted signs, left just for me He was guiding me, love, his own way Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow

at the end of the song it says that the boy only realised what his dad had done for him as he was dying.

his final bow was his last thing he did for his son

I think people often forget that our parents are not perfect and they do the best they can to raise their children to be successful, kind, and functional people in society. We may not see it when we are younger but when we get older we realize that what they did was because they loved us and its what was best for us at the time.

The dad in the movie is dying of cancer. My dad died of cancer recently. The past year I could feel him slipping away. We fought alot when I was a teenager. I realized he wouldn't be around forever and I straighted up my act and became a proud legacy for my father and myself.

My opinion of the song: It reminds me of my family in a way. He lived his life always trying to do the right thing, to help others, and to be kind and passionate. He always wanted to be remembered as a decent man and for what he did for other people and the world. The part the gets to me the most is

"The man of the hour has taken his final bow. Good bye for now"

My Opinion

@ParadoxicalSoul I feel the same way, and we've been through the same story. Dad's died of cancer, too. I disagreed with him in many things, particularly his thoughts about my future. As I grow mature now, I understand his decisions and respect the depth of his virtue. He was too worry about me and I wouldn't let anybody steer my future.

There were times I regret our time together should last very soon. Deep in my heart, I want to make him proud. Due to his conservative treatment and lack of expression which always seemed to block my vision, we...

It is obviously about a man saying goodbye to his father, his relationship with his father, and really every man`s relationship with their father.

"And the doors are open now as the bells are ringing out" most likely about the funeral, the doors of the church is open and the church bells are ringing

"young men they pretend Old men comprehend." What every young and old man does, the young try to act better, superior, the old understand the young, because they were once young themselves

"And the road The old man paved The broken seams along the way The rusted signs, left just for me He was guiding me, love, his own way Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow As the curtain comes down I feel that this is just goodbye for now."

What every father tries to do with their son, guide them, help them understand life and teach them about life.

just want to say, this is one of the few movies and songs that have brought me near to tears

I'm pretty sure that it was written for the movie. Look in the 'Big Fish' credits. This song is about the speaker remembering his deceased father, and appreciating everything he was to him. I don't think the song fits perfectly with the movie, but the overall idea is there. The father in the movie was the 'man of the hour'.

the song was written for the movie, eddie says so himself when he introduces the song on the cd "live at benaroya hall". tim burton showed pearl jam the film he made (big fish) and then asked if they had anything to add to it.

yep, gremlin is right. he also said that he was so moved by the movie, they wrote this song within a few hours after the movie was over. i think it fits perfectly for the end of the film. i also read somewhere that eddie had a tough time with his dad, and i guess this movie meant a lot personally to him.

i see where the eveidence for the movie is coming from but i still believe that there are a hell of a lot more than 2 reasons for this song. 1 the movie INSPIRED them 2 eds personal life 3 how ed thinks people see him with his father (ha father) 4 how ed thinks about his father

overall i think the movie inspired him to make this song and what a better way topromote it than in a filim what a great idea
