What's this odd game that’s all over the airwaves
It's their, loose lips
That lay me so sick with an ear pinned down on your chest
And all I heard were sighs from that shotgun
That she hides so well so well under that dress, my my, what an awful mess
Does that dress fit alright?
I want to know why it falls off and on
Are you okay, baby?
Hopefully Mississippi will end you like it did me
I’m a cabaret, a champagne café everyone uses to celebrate,
I’m just not ready to rot and dance and laugh to the sweetest death I ever had
And oh my, you look awful with a mouthful of sex like drugs, but I just can’t seem
To switch off this machine that turns ivory into kerosene
Does that dress fit alright?
I want to know why it falls off and on
Are you okay, baby?
Hopefully New York City will lose you like it did me

What’s this odd game that’s all over the airwaves? It’s their loose lips that laid me so sick with and ear pinned down on your chest… And all I heard were sighs from that shotgun that she hides so well under that dress My my what an awful mess…

Does that dress fit alright? I wanna know why it falls off and on Are you ok baby? Hopefully Mississippi will lynch you like it did me...

I’m a cabaret A Champaign café Everyone uses to celebrate But I’m just not ready to rot and dance and laugh to the sweetest death I ever had… My my you look awful with a mouthful Of sex …like drugs but I just can’t seem to switch off this machine That turns ivory into kerosene

Does that dress fit alright? I wanna know why it falls off and on Are you ok baby? Hopefully New York City will lose you like it did me

This is one of my favorite songs off Pollyanna, although I'm having an difficult time finding the deeper meaning. It seems like a end-of-a-relationship song, regretting what went wrong but accepting it. What does everyone else think?

What a lovely song. I can't think of what it means...cheating maybe? The whole dress falling on and off for different men..

the story to me seems like he's at home by himself drinking or doing drugs, knowing that his relationship with a girlfriend has to end because she cheated on him.

awesome song im seeing them live next week with Straylight run at the downtown woohoo

The song has to be about cheating... if you look at the lyrics they kind of spell it out for you:

"what's this odd game that's all over the airwaves?" suggests that he's heard about her cheating (using airwaves, like a radio, as a general term for a lot of people), and he's directly asking about it; it could also mean that she's cheated with many people

"it's their loose lips that made me so sick" the words 'their loose lips' imply that many people know of her cheating, and when he found it, made him sick because he didn't want the relationship to end and he wasn't expecting her to cheat

"Does that dress fit alright? I wanna know why it falls off and on, Are you Okay, Baby?" This part is him asking her if there's something wrong with the dress and that's why it falls off; he doesn't want to think about the idea of her cheating. He asks if she's okay to see if he can do anything to change what she does

"i'm a cabaret, a champaign cafe, everyone uses to celebrate, I'm just not ready to rot and dance and laugh..." This part is saying how he feels used, like a piece of entertainment for her (Cabaret) he's not ready to rot to a sweet death (sweet because he had her)

"oh my you look awful with a mouthful of sex-- like drugs" Referring to the fact that she has sex with more than one guy is an 'awful' idea-- she's addicted to sex like its a drug

"I just can't seem to switch off this machine that turns ivory into kerosene" --refers to her as a machine, the ivory is a symbol for what he thinks sex should be, valuble... the kerosene is what he thinks she sees sex as, something less desireable

This is how i see it... What do you think? let me know :)

dear lord i adore this song.

i think its mainly about the failing relationship and what a whore the girl he loves is,yet how lost and drugged up and sex crazed (to be frank) he has become, and how he has lost himself.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
