Two Way Monologue Lyrics
Mum
All the other options that you had in mind starve me
`Cause I'm optionless and turkey-free and blind
Pa
Won't you listen and I'll let you in on this
Blind me!
As you listen I'll reduce advice to dust
Oh no!
I shouldn't have to spell my name
Ma!
If it's worth the made up smiles, the quiet fights
Oh mother!
It is hard not to look in the mirror's eye
I have come to this while you have come along
So it's alright if you change your mind the other way around again
I shouldn't have to spell my name
So start the two way monologues that speak your mind
We're talking two way monologues with words that rhyme
We
can't reclaim the shirts we threw away last twirl
Uncurl the note-in-pocket, personal brochures that dust
Machine-washed, that's how paper rusts
Days you spend wanting some of Michael Landon's grace
strike back, now they shape your life as stony as his face
Oh no! I shouldn't have to spell his name
So start the two way monologues that speak your mind
Start the two way monologues with words that rhyme
Start the two way monologues that speak your mind
We're talking two way monologues
We were chasing rabbits on the hill
And that prairie-life was great, but never real
`Cause we never saw no rabbits out there, ever, no, not once
All we did was put a fire up and watch it burn for months
And I miss the sound of stairs and walls and maladjusted doors
and too little space for holding all the soldiers and the war
All the other options that you had in mind starve me
`Cause I'm optionless and turkey-free and blind
Won't you listen and I'll let you in on this
Blind me!
As you listen I'll reduce advice to dust
Oh no!

this song is fucking awesome
Since he starts out with talking about his mom and dad, I feel that it talks about parental communication. It's like they're talking "two-way monologues," which doesn't include compromising. It includes voicing out one's opinion, but being oblivious to the world around oneself. The "I shouldn't have to spell my name" bit is the result of his parents being so wrapped up in their conflict that they forget everything else, including the things that matter the most such as their children.
But.. I'm dumbfounded to what "turkey-free" means other than "without turkey." :P
I love this song.. it's a great song to fall asleap to.
Sondre said "two way monologue" is just that; people talking to each just to hear their own voices but not listening to what the other person says and vice versa. Essentially, the converstion becomes more of a monologue than a dialogue between two people. He said the album is about that frustration.
The "turkey-free" part is referring to that old saying "lets talk turkey" and hes out of small talk..i think...
Woohoo! First to comment on a good song. Though I have no real comment. I was just checking the lyrics. Great song though, I'd recommend it to everyone.

Well he mentions Michael Landon, the star and, well, face of the television shows and movies based on The Little House on the Prairie books, blindness (one of the sisters went blind, I looked it up and it was Mary), and prairie-life, so I'm guessing this song is inspired by The Little House on the Prairie tv series. Not that I watched the show on summer vacation mornings when I was younger or anything......
oh elsker deg sondre! :)
yeah yeah, i really like this song, its such a laid-back pop. you dont have to concentrate to listen to it, it sorta floats on its own..
there's also the bit about "personal brochures that dust" then the "Days you spend wanting some of Michael Landon's grace / strike back, now they shape your life as stony as his face". I think these parts are talking about how his parents lives were not living up to their dreams. They had all these personal brochures of a great life that just turned to dust. And a stony life, which doesn't sound good. Has anyone seen the video? sooo cute
