Holiday In The Sun Lyrics
How does it feel to be one of those, when your back's against the wall?
a wrong way down a one way street and you're headed for a fall
you've got no hope and no way to cope
and there's no one to call a friend
your only prayer is if someone cares, enough to help it end
There's no way you're not gonna see it
you better, you better believe it
Isn't this fun? It's a holiday in the sun, a life so serene
for you, not me.
Yeah we got it all, no problems my friend
We're all oblivious, because it's us, not them.
Every day in the USA it's a life of luxury
we're rich, sublime and we're satisfied
you're reaching every need
and we don't care about the world out there
we just go about our lives
so self-absorbed we can just ignore
the hate outside our eyes
Isn't it nice when you have everything you need?
Just as long you close your eyes it's nice for you and me
nice for you and me
a wrong way down a one way street and you're headed for a fall
you've got no hope and no way to cope
and there's no one to call a friend
your only prayer is if someone cares, enough to help it end
you better, you better believe it
for you, not me.
Yeah we got it all, no problems my friend
We're all oblivious, because it's us, not them.
we're rich, sublime and we're satisfied
you're reaching every need
and we don't care about the world out there
we just go about our lives
so self-absorbed we can just ignore
the hate outside our eyes
Just as long you close your eyes it's nice for you and me
nice for you and me

I'm really surprised no one commented on this song. What I draw from it is that we all get so wrapped up in our own problems and aspirations that we forget that the world doesn't revolve around us. The song makes a reference to the USA because we as a country are a perfect example although this goes on world-wide. Ignorance is bliss, and when all we see is our own well-being, we are happy.
It's hard to take this song seriously when there poverty is a huge problem in the US. In this song they make it seem like everyone in the US is well off and too rich to care when in fact a lot of Americans have their financial problems to worry about
Dougbranches:
To me, the song doesn't specifically apply to Americans' views of the rest of the world. It also includes content Americans who don't think about the rest of their country. The song points out that when you have everything you need, you forget about the rest of the world...including the people around you who may not be so well off.
It's about the elite having a great life, and it's like a holiday in the sun. But they don't realize the rest of the world does have problems.
