Nobody's Diary Lyrics

If I wait for just a second more
I know I'll forget what I came here for.
My head was so full of things to say
But as I open my lips all my words slip away
ahh and anyway

I can't believe you want to turn the page
And move your life onto another stage.
You can change the chapter
you can change the book
But the story remains the same if you'd take a look.

For the time we've had
I don't want to be
a page in your diary babe.
For the good, the bad
I don't want to see
a page in your diary babe.
For the happy, the sad
I don't want to be another page
in your diary.

Perhaps if I held you I could win again
I could take your hands we'd talk and maybe then
That look in your eyes
I always recognise
Would tell me everything is gonna be fine.
Your gonna be mine for a long time.

For the time we've had
I don't want to be
a page in your diary babe.
For the good, the bad
I don't want to see
a page in your diary babe.
For the happy, the sad
I don't want to be another page
in your diary.

Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet were forced to modify their original name, Yazoo, to Yaz in the US as some other US band, of course, who were just small potatoes and were never heard from again--I think they were going by the name, "Yazoo City" somthing-or-another--won a legal battle over who could be the "real Yazoo" here in the US. Another case of our Yankee pursuit of the Frivolous Lawsuit-No-Matter-What: only in America! :P

Wrong. This song is from Yaz, not Yazoo. It's from their 1983 album " You and Me Both".

Now, to be quite honest this group's first name was... Yazoo ;)

So it's the same duo, but a later work, under another name.

Whatever the case. I can't believe more people don't remember this song. Actually the first time I heard it was on the soundtrack of the indie film "The Edge of Seventeen," and it complimented the film in a very memorable way. It's a straightforward break-up song, from the viewpoint of the party who isn't ready to let go. A simple and universal song that creeps under one's skin.

Strange that there are four posts here and none of them actually relate to the song itself. Well, I'm going to break that trend. The song is about the singer rejecting a lover because the lover wants some cheap one-night stand thing and that's not what the singer wants. OTOH, around this time, the band was on the verge of breaking up, and this may be a lament that the band is just going to be a footnote in history.
