Q&A
Failing, Flailing Lyrics
You say you've got the cure
But I don't have a disease
And you say you've got the answers
But I've made no inquiries
And you're failing, bailing
Good God, motherfucker, now I see you flailing
I see you flailing, that's right I think I do
I see you flailing away, away
Oh, I know it's hard, but so are you
And so am I and we'll pull through together, oh together
And I said that it's been years, but still I fear
That someone dear will leave me here forever, oh forever
And I said,
Hey (hey), hey (hey), hey (hey)
Hey (hey), hey (hey), hey (hey)
Hey, you've got to keep trying
You've got to keep holding onto what you've got
Because what you've got, it sure ain't a lot
Hey, everyone's falling down
Everyone's holding out for what you've got
But what you've got, it sure ain't a lot
And you act like it is, but you know that it's not
And even if it was, would you ever give it up
If I told you what you had was really nothing?
Nothing? Nothing! Yes, it's nothing, nothing at all
So, you say your life's a bore, and I can't quite disagree
If you judge your life by the pieces of shit that inhabit your TV
Because they stand so proud and they talk too loud
And every other word is a lie
I've found that everyone who is anyone is a waste of time, a waste of time
I know it's hard, but so are you
And so am I and we'll pull through together, oh together
And I said, "It's been years, but still I fear
That someone dear will leave me here forever, oh forever"
And I said,
Hey (hey), hey (hey), hey (hey)
Hey (hey), hey (hey), hey (hey)
Hey, you've got to keep trying
You've got to keep holding onto what you've got
Because what you've got it sure ain't a lot
Hey, everyone's falling down
Everyone's holding out for what you've got
But what you've got, it sure ain't a lot
And you act like it is but you know that it's not
And even if it was, would you ever give it up
If I told you what you had was really nothing?
Nothing? Nothing! Yes, it's nothing, nothing at all
Nothing
You won't say nothing
You don't say nothing
And that's just fine
Nothing
(Take me back to that day when I was blind)
You won't say nothing
(I would like to see your face one last time)
You don't say nothing
(Take me back to that day when I was blind)
And that's just fine
(I would like to see your face one last time)
Sticks and stones may break my bones
(Nothing)
(Take me back to that day when I went blind)
But names will never hurt me
(You won't say nothing)
(I would like to see your face one last time)
And it's been years but still I fear
That someday they'll desert me
(You don't say nothing)
(Take me back to that day when I went blind)
Oh, it's hard, I know
When it's time to stand alone
(And that's just fine)
(I would like to see your face one last time)
And no one understands you
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names will never hurt me
Oh, it's been years, but still I fear
That someday they'll desert me
Oh, it's hard, yes, I know
When it's time to stand alone
And no one understands you
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names will never hurt me
And it's been years, but still I fear
That someday they'll desert me
Oh, it's hard, I know

what the hell are you talking about "this my least favorite song"... it IS my favorite it makes me feel so good and so much good memories comes to my mind when I listen to this song. I really like it
"you say you've got the cure, but i don't have a disease." that reminds me of x-men the last stand.
this is like my least favorite streetlight song but its still really good. it seems like its a kindof broad song about just haning on and getting through any type of hard time.
This song is the second worst song on the CD, but alas don't worry! It's good. By worst I mean it doesn't compare to songs like "A better place, a better time" It still kicks ass, though. It's an "anthem" (I hate that word) for getting through hardships.
It seems like every time I read what a site has for lyrics on this song, they miss my favorit line in the entire song! It makes me so angry!
After one round of "Nothing / You won't say nothing / You don't say nothing / And that's just fine" a second round starts and overlaps this first round. The words to it are "Take me back to that day when I went blind / I would like to see your face one last time." I love that line. It's repeated twice per round for two rounds starting after the "Nothing" round goes once.
The first time I heard this song I got really angry, because he stole a line I had written years ago. I didn't like it when I wrote it, but somehow coming from Tomas it sounds better.
Definately not nearly the best song on the album, but its definately a good one. The first verse seems a little weak to me, but the rest is incredibly solid, in my opinion.
How did he "steal" your line?
How did he "steal" your line?
Good god mother fucker now your failing, failing
Its all opioion but this is by far my favorite song on the cd, in fact, my favorite song from any cd. FINALLY! Jimmifrisbee! YES! that is what makes this song just that much more to be my favorite! just my little story.... so the story goes like this (heh...couldnt resist) the concert in Toronto, everybody was sining allong to the other parts of the rounds and i was smushed against the stage...and this was l8r in the show so i was exausted and we all were, but everybody just sang, and i felt so alone when no1, not even one of the guys in the band sang that part, i was the only person in my general area that was sining that part, i dont know if ne1 else in the whole venue was, a guy next to me even look over at me as if i was on crack and didn't know the lyrics! sereously, gave me the queerist look ever.
haha. i am torn.. i am not to big on the first 4 or so minutes.. but like the last part, starting from "Nothing, you won't say nothing" is one of my favourite parts of any song from all time.. i always set the CD to that part of the song right before i get out, so as soon as i jump into it to go anywhere, its the first thing i hear.. gets me all excited and dancing and whatnot.
i agree with eddo- i like the 2nd half much more, but i think the contrast is good.
the intro is awesome..
