A Time for Emily Lyrics

Well you've seen all that you came for.
It didn't help you at all.
Watch as I break rank and dissolve.
Emily why don't you miss me?
You hung around for so long.
But I got no friends and you got no resolve.
Was it so long ago?
You asked me to stay behind.
You said I didn't care at all.
Was it so long ago?
I asked you to stay beside me all through the years.
The death of this mess finally came around with no relief this year.
Congratulations you just fucking disappeared.

might be about jenny and blake's relationship and how jenny left the scene for about a year 'cause of despression...

I kind of think this is about A Rose For Emily, that story by Faulkner about a woman who kills a man so she can lie beside him. It's showing a POV from both characters, Homer (the man she kills) and Ms. Emily.

i read that short story in school so i know what you're talking about katie, but im not so sure i see a whole lot of allusions to it in this song... "The death of this mess finally came around with no relief this year." maybe that line can somehow relate to the story but im not entirely sure how.
