The song seems incredibly obsessive, as if John is confused about his role in the world, and all he can do is ask himself, never knowing. It's a song about personality crisis, and the needing to be loved. Beautifully tragic song.

I'd enjoyed the song as soon as I heard it.

But only on a superficial level.

Until I noticed these words and took time to think about them:

I think this song is about confusion and resonates with feeling unsure or stuck with your sense of self, your identity. Who you are! There\'s a desperation in the "look at me...please look at me my love." Yoko, was his love, so that might be what the song is about. His desperate need for her love. It could be about a fight they had, and he wants her to see his point of view. "Look at me" might be vague for "look at my side of the story".

My Interpretation
