When It Hits My Blood Lyrics
I stole from my mother
to hock her TV
she locked herself in the bathroom
she locked herself away from me
I’m not her son
when it hits my blood
I’ve never felt this good before,
I’ve never been at peace inside
my mother’s a pill fiend
my girlfriend cut the rope, burned the sail
step on it yourself, man
drive down to fla. and bail
when it hits my blood
I’m not her son
I’m the son of a flower that grows on afghani bluff
I’ve never felt this good before,
I’ve never been at peace inside
to hock her TV
she locked herself in the bathroom
she locked herself away from me
when it hits my blood
I’ve never been at peace inside
my girlfriend cut the rope, burned the sail
step on it yourself, man
drive down to fla. and bail
I’m not her son
I’m the son of a flower that grows on afghani bluff
I’ve never been at peace inside

Another song I'd assume to be about a movie on Cellar Door (Promising Actress the other), this time about "Requiem For A Dream." Pawning his mom's tv to buy drugs, shooting up, mom's addicted to diet pills, driving to Florida, etc. Another really good song. I like how the chorus slows, it's a bit dreamy, like he's just shot up.
I've been thinking exactly the same thing for months and glad someone else saw the similarities. I'm pretty sure Ellen Burstyn locks herself in the bathroom in that movie too, right?
I thought it was the son of a flower that grows on Afghani blood.
Great song.
There are too many similarities drawn between John's lyrics here and the events of Selby's Requiem For A Dream for it to be a coincidence, not that that's a bad thing. In fact, I love to hear songs that draw inspiration from other works that I know and enjoy, especially when they are written so clear as to understand the connection. Cellar Door is the first album by John Vanderslice I heard, and I instantly enjoyed the relaxed singing style he employs; a great example being found on this song.
