Animal Machine Lyrics
I'm looking down by the streets end
Girl you've been lacking a pretense
So save your money for the weak you're gonna kill
Cause I got something that the company know how to feel
I'm looking down by the streets end
Girl you've been lacking a pretense
There can't be anything between
It's automatic over me
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
I'm looking over the deep end
Time ain't a reason for defense
Fly from a tree to a sea bed
Mean while, you've been locked in a freezer
There can't be anything between
It's automatic over me
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
Colors of her dream
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
Colors of her dream
Girl you've been lacking a pretense
Cause I got something that the company know how to feel
Girl you've been lacking a pretense
It's automatic over me
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
Time ain't a reason for defense
Mean while, you've been locked in a freezer
It's automatic over me
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
Colors of her dream
Shoot like an animal machine
Straight from the colors of her dream
Colors of her dream

i think this songs about hating everyone and everything and just feeling like you need to vent your almost animal like anger on a certain individual. the songs fantastic and i cant wait to see what else these guys throw our way.
Craig and Patrick in an interview:
Craig: “ Well, it’s the second song, and it’s also quite short and it’s also dark. The chorus harmonies sound like they’ve got a bit of Suede in there – that’s the band I’m talking about, not the material that you can have your jacket made of if you feel like it. It sounds very staccato to me in the chorus. You know, very short and sharp.”
Patrick: “ What was it our friend Robin said about this one? ‘Nirvana meets Suede – clearly a good thing’.”
This is one of those songs by the Vines that you just can't seem to really grasp what he's trying to say. I agree somewhat with used-trash. I don't know, I'd have to study it more to try and figure out what it's about... Awesome song anyway.
Rock on, Jazz
this and aint no room are my favorite songs. all there songs offer o many different emotions and thats refreshing.
I always thought it was "week" rather than "weak" on line three.
I reckon it's about sex.
rape. ^^
hahha, I always thought it was about drugs. ehh, drugs, sex, violence, whatever. when I really think about it, now I kind of think it's about nothing at all.. just emotions and stuff put into words and noise. which is basically what a song is anyway.. that didnt help..

I love this song, but had NO IDEA what craig was going on about. I like the first comment on here by used-trash ; you make a good point.
Sounds to me it might be about a relationship with a girl who actually cared about him, and he fucked it up.
"I'm looking down by the streets end Girl you've been lacking a pretense" -she was plain with him
"There can't be anything between It's automatic over me" -some thing's causing him to distance himself to her but he can't help it(aspergers)
"Shoot like an animal machine Straight from the colors of her dream" -he lashes out. -not sure what the colors of her dream means, people don't dream in color though.
"I'm looking over the deep end Time ain't a reason for defense" -he's gonna lose it
"Fly from a tree to a sea bed Mean while, you've been locked in a freezer" -he's gone from feeling great(trees are up high) to as low as possible(sea bed), he's having an emotional rollercoaster and she's locked out, or locked in(freezer).
I'm just basing this all on craig's known asperger's and his inability to establish relationships. I could be, and suspect i am, very wrong.
Another possibility is it isn't DIRECTLY about him, perhaps the narrator is someone who he feels has his problem, and is switching tenses throughout the song.
Pro. thanks for that, I was more or less lost before
