The Awful Truth of Loving Lyrics
it started out good, and started out bad
I still wanted a taste, of what I already had
the fruit is golden when it falls from the tree
and spoiled by the time it gets to me
it's a dilemma
of girls and boys for centuries
should I be with you?
should I forget about me?
first it feels right, then you stay up all night worrying
it's the awful truth of loving
could've been noble, but it started out fast
they say that kind of thing will never last
the peach is perfect when it falls from the tree
and bruised by the time it gets to me
it's a dilemma
of boys and girls for centuries
do I really know you?
do you really need me?
first it feels right
then you write a novel worrying
about the awful truth of loving
and by the time you bide your time
a year goes by and you don't act any older
(x2)
I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
and when the stakes are high
I'm careless with the dice
and now it seems like
I'm pushing my luck all the time
it started out good, and started out bad
I still wanted a taste, of what I already had
the peach is perfect when it falls from the tree
and spoiled by the time it gets to me
it's a dilemma
of girls and boys for centuries
should I be with you?
should I forget about me?
first it feels right, then you stay up all night worrying

I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
and when the stakes are high
I'm careless with the dice
and now it seems like
I'm pushing my luck all the time
and all that we were thinking is about individuality
(x4)
I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
I wanted to be sweet
so you won't disappoint me
and when the stakes are high
I'm careless with the dice
and now it seems like
I'm pushing my luck all the time
all the time, all the time, all the time

well yeah, ive been listening to this song for a good ol' time and finally, the site got back up... but yeah, the meaning goes along with the title,"the awful truth of loving." People think that love will change everything and make some remarkable affect on your life and i guess in some ways it can but really, you're just always trying to be in love when maybe thats just not that way its suppose to be. just in some desperate attempt to keep the love you once had.... i hope that what im saying is even relavent but yeah, thats my feelings about it.
I just love this song its just a perfect song for anyone falling in love or already in love.
While I think Emo pretty well nailed the meaning of the song, I'll add a note about the interesting switch in gender perspectives this song does. In the first verse, we get the typically female relationship concerns ("it's a dilemma of girls and boys for centuries should I be with you? should I forget about me?). In the second verse, we switch to typically male anxieties (“it's a dilemma of boys and girls for centuries do I really know you? do you really need me?”). I think some people may assume that this song is sung from the perspective of one person, when in fact the story is told by both members of the relationship.
wouldn't it be awesome if being sweet was all it took for a girl to get a guy to do what she wished would come naturally. you can't force love upon anyone.
I like your added perspective, goldfish!
I love how she describes this :D
"first it feels right then you write a novel worrying about the awful truth of loving"
i agree but i would hardly call this song emo. i know rainer is in "general".
but you couldn't say this song is. i guess it is emotive. i dont really care about genres so why am i now? i don't know. but i really love this song
