I'm About to Come Alive Lyrics

I can hear you downstairs, crying on the phone.
Telling someone that I'm here but you still feel all alone.
Maybe we were too young,
Goodbye, I've gotta go.
I can hear the baby waking up,
Got to get back to the life I know .

I should have never believed him.
Maybe I should just leave him.

Chorus
Maybe I'm not but you're all I got left to believe in.
Don't give up on me,
I'm about to come alive.
And I know that it's been hard,
and it's been a long time coming.
Don't give up on me,
I'm about to come alive.

No one thought I was good enough for you except for you.
Don't let them be right
After all that we've been through.
'Cause somewhere over that rainbow,
there's a place for me,
a place with you.

Chorus

In every frame upon our wall,
Lies a face that's seen it all.
Through ups and downs and then more downs,
We helped each other off of the ground.
No one knows what we've been through.
Making it ain't making it without you.

Chorus

I'm about to come alive.
(Don't give up on me, I'm about to come alive)
(Don't give up on me, I'm about to come alive)

Obviously, this song is about postmortem zombification.

The departed wishes for his girlfriend to heed his warning when he whines, "I'm about to come alive", alerting her that soon he will rise from his earthen grave and become a shambling undead, cursed with a quenchless urge to feast upon the brains of the living.

The first stanza tells of his horrific undead march, his former girlfriend trapped in the basement as he listens hungrily to her fearful, tear-laden voice calling for help from the inaccessible police. In the background, a terror-stricken infant calls out, and the zombie, awakened with new hunger, diverges to consume it. The theme continues as he reflects upon his ultimately dismal purpose (terrorizing, brain-consuming, etc.) as a decaying, reanimated corpse.

This song is probably the best to come off "My Private Nation" It's a beautiful account of what it's like to lose a long-term relationship. The lines "maybe we were too young" strike pretty hard with a lot of people who've heard it themselves. In the chorus he's telling the girl that maybe he's not very meaningful in her life, but she's pretty much all he's got to believe in. He knows that everything has been hard and that she should've left him a long time ago, but he pleads that he's on the edge of becoming who she wants. He's basically saying, wait give me another chance I'll be something really great here in a minute. The second verse is really sweet and very well written I think. This song sounds like it came from somewhere very personal I think, it's almost like looking in on a personal conversation. He goes through how they got together despite everyone thinking they wouldn't and he says don't let it fall apart after all that we've actually made it through. You're just going to prove them right. Then in the final verse which is also amazingly well written tells of photographs of themselves and he thinks about how much they've seen. Like a road-wearied type of thing. The last line is my favorite I think that Train has ever written. It's great in its simplicity. He realizes that no matter how good things are in his life that they could always be better with her. It's just not winning if it's not winning with her. Anyway, that's my interpretation of a really fantastic song by Train.

Jag hit it right on the head. This song doesn't leave much for interpretation like some other Train songs do. This song touched me very deeply when my marriage fell apart. I so wanted to fix it and thought we had. Now I am on to better things.

the whole, "i'm about to come alive" thing i think is referring to when someone has gone through a hard time suddenly they "shut down" or like die emotionally until they can't feel anymore. he's saying, don't give up, because that's going to go away soon.

Reminds me of how Jeffrey Dahmer claimed to have found the light of Christ in prison (yes i said the same about "I will survive"-Stephanie Bentley)

This song always reminds me of my parents. When I was young they went through a really tough time and my dad did some very stupid things. There were times when my mom considered leaving him, and my dad even moved out for a while. Eventually he told her that he knew he'd been stupid, and it wasnt fair how hard things had been for her, but he wanted the chance to try again and do things better. She gave him that chance. Things were rocky for a few years after, but they're doing really well now and their happier than ever. My mom trusts him again, and she's really glad she waited for him to "come alive." This song really seems to sum up what my family went through during that time. Almost makes me cry.

What I got immediately from this song is that they man was a veteran who had just returned home from war and was getting used to civilian life. I don't know if anyone else sees it that way, but from me this song spoke to me through that tone. But the man is telling his wife don't worry I'll be ok it's just taking time to get used to and I'll be the me you knew soon. The first verse where she is on the phone saying that he's home but she still feels alone was a giveaway to me. When people come back from war their families and friends notice that sometimes they aren't the same person who left. My parents were both in the military and my mom said she wouldn't have gotten through my dads deployments without their strong relationship. She believes that if they can get through being apart for the beginning of their marriage they can get through anything.
