This Is Our Emergency Lyrics
When you've finally throw up your hand
Poured your heart out, yet nothing stands
It seems out efforts are wasted
But yet it hasn't been in vain
Unfulfillment is killing you
Seems like no one shares the same view
We may have never met but
It might you who pulls me through
Stand up so I can see you
Shout out so I can heart you
Reach out so I can touch you
This is our emergency
Baby you don't have to be
A picture in a magazine
Sometimes you're to blind to see
Anything objectively
Just keep on doing your thing right now
Listen here take it from me
We're gonna do it differently
They'll follow when you start the lead
Strength in numbers is our key
Keep on doing your thing you do now
Don't forget that when you doubt
That anyone will care about
A thing you do and when you're lost
Someone else is always found
A thousand voices, are you listening?
The tiny spare that you create
It can inspire and duplicate
And soon it spreads from state
To state from Williamsburg to Silverlake
A thousand voices, are you listening?
This is our emergency
Poured your heart out, yet nothing stands
It seems out efforts are wasted
But yet it hasn't been in vain
Seems like no one shares the same view
We may have never met but
It might you who pulls me through
Shout out so I can heart you
Reach out so I can touch you
This is our emergency
A picture in a magazine
Sometimes you're to blind to see
Anything objectively
Just keep on doing your thing right now
We're gonna do it differently
They'll follow when you start the lead
Strength in numbers is our key
Keep on doing your thing you do now
That anyone will care about
A thing you do and when you're lost
Someone else is always found
A thousand voices, are you listening?

To state from Williamsburg to Silverlake
A thousand voices, are you listening?

Look out for this band, they are going somewhere.

i love this song.
good song, they are definatly going somewhere
fuck yea, kick ass band.i think this song is confusing but it seems like shes trying to speak to someone. its an emergency no one hears
much love
@cryandsmile she was talking to the band.

She's talking about music. It's simple. She's trying to explain how much music can mean to someone, how much it can change a life, or lives. It's also about how much you shouldn't care about the little things that keep you down, just keep your head up and keep moving. It's like Andrea is speaking of the salvation that music is for so many people and how they run away from these things through listening to music and being saved.
I think it's more telling us that we're our own worst critic and how we tend to get lost in the expectations of the world. When our friends and those we care about lose sight of us becuase we've lost sight of ourselves in trying to fulfill those expectations. We think nobody cares about us and forget those that do.
"Don't forget that when you doubt That anyone will care about A thing you do and when you're lost Someone else is always found A thousand voices, are you listening?"
The Emergency is were lost and those we care about are trying to find us.
I sort of agree with mrs_chainsaw, but I see this song more as an "anarchist's anthem", if you will. The way I see it, it's a rejection of the fickle society in which we live. Take:
"Baby you don't have to be A picture in a magazine"
It's basically sharing the knowledge that we aren't all perfect, that we don't have to be perfect, and that we can reject the media if we want.
The repetition of the line: "Keep on doing your thing you do now," seems to suggest that there are many different ways we can "express" ourselves; different ways in which we can "fight" the degradation of our society. They just do it by writing music.
It's also about inspiration and how:
"The tiny spark that you create It can inspire and duplicate And soon it spreads from state To state from Williamsburg to Silverlake"
i've always thought it was about individualism or perhaps being in a band and believing in your band so much, but kind of feeling like it's going nowhere.

good song. great album...love The New Romance so much more than Good Health.
I thought it was about a one night stand, but I like Mrs Chainsaw's reading better.
