Your Revolution Is A Joke

I see this song as kind of having two meanings. The first is about apathy, people who don't pay attention to what's going on in the world (closing their eyes, refusing to see what's going on, etc) and people believing the lies that are fed to them ("Dont believe their headlines / they poison our minds, everyday"), and the second meaning is for people who DO see what a state the world is in, and who want to change it, without realising that they are powerless to change things in any real way. So the revolutionaries think they'll change things for the better, but after a revolution things always end up the same as they were before: people are still opressed, it's just a different group of people doing the opressing ("it will never be okay", even if you went through with the revolution things would still be pretty shit). Not only will nothing change, but the revolution will doubtless cause deaths of the idealists who are 'fighting to change things', so their belief that they can make a difference (it's a lie, "They stand to fight for nothing") will lead to the deaths of many people involved with the revolution ("The lies that lead you into the grave"). However the revolutionaries refuse to see how pointless their revolution would be, because they can't cope with the idea that they can't change things, that they can't do anything to help people who are opressed; they care too much about helping people to acknowledge to themselves that they can't make a difference ("those who care to much to see"). So really, the whole idea of the revolution is just a joke, because it will never really make things any better, no matter how much the revolutionaries would like to believe it will.

Basically I see this song as presenting you with a choice: Believe the lies that are fed to you, and you won't feel any of the pain that comes with the knowledge of what's going on, but you will remain ignorant and controlled by the system, Or Reject the lies fed to you by the media, but keep the illusion that you can change things for the better, and this might lead to pointless death of people involved in the revolution, but at least you avoid the hopelessness of felling like you can't make a difference, Or Reject the lies of the media and reject the illusion that there's anything you can do, and it'll suck and you'll feel powerless and hopeless, but at least you won't be lying to yourself. (So, it'll suck unless you lie to yourself: "fortune favours only those who care too much to see", those who can't cope with the idea of not being able to change things will be happier, but they won't be seeing the truth).

I think how I read it explains how the sadness and hopeless of the music reflects the lyrics. But it's just my interpretation of the song, so maybe I've got it all wrong ^^; Sorry for being so long winded about it >_

I'm not quite sure this is about ''titles'' like goths... etc, My peronal feeling is that, Matt is just saying that we all live under control, we never take a look, and try to change, we just complain, like if we were all doing something to change this world, this is not about '' your revolution is a joke'', meaning every revolution is a joke, this means we all ''revolt'' without even having the meanings, and without even truly fighting. (we stand to fight for nothing, we show how stupid we've become, as fortune favours only, those who care to much to see)

It will never be okay, as some will say: This is just about conformism, people who just sit, thinking they've got nothing to do. The song is just so pesimist, because the point is seeing just how anoying is society now ( but this can be related to everything, not just society.. let's say, fake ideals) Because truly, we all know, everybody complains, but not even 1% of them act correctly, really knowing what they are fighting for.

Your revolution, is a joke, As I will say: Sounds to me like, you don't really know what you're fighting for, and you aren't even fighting for it, your personal revolution, is a joke.

Sometimes it sounds like he's talking about war. How men go and fight for their country but they get nothing back and how it's all so stupid. They all care so much about the cause that they don't really see what it is. The media is poisoning their minds with propaganda and lying to them.

At least, that's one interpretation.

I think it is about how pessimism, cynisism and indifferance kill our spirits and that people who never question or challenge what they are told really live for nothing.

I think Matt is saying that it takes a special kind of person to stand against this kind of pessimism, but he isn't one of them.

i have never understood the song ... but matt puts so emotion into it i frankly couldnt give a damn .. whatever the song is written about its coming from the heart and that is so special because nowadays that can be quite hard to find ...

towards the end of the song ... when matt raises his voice is immense ... i have never heard so much emotion in a song before ... and i listen to a lot of music :D
