She Wants to Play Hearts Lyrics
I am a broken toy
For a lonely girl
Use once and destroy
And go find some more
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
She wants to play a game of hearts
I'm the rag doll boy
With broken eyes
She only comes to me
When it's raining outside
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
She wants to play a game of hearts
I fell for you
I fell for you
Why?
I guess I wanted to play too.
Here's the lonely string
Playing 'long in my head
For only just my arms
Are dancing marionettes
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
And she wants to play a game of hearts
She wants to play a game of hearts
For a lonely girl
Use once and destroy
And go find some more
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
She wants to play a game of hearts
With broken eyes
She only comes to me
When it's raining outside
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
She wants to play a game of hearts
I fell for you
Why?
I guess I wanted to play too.
Playing 'long in my head
Are dancing marionettes
Back home, kids play in the leaves in the park
And she wants to play a game of hearts
She wants to play a game of hearts

From Ryan in 2002. "My favourite song on the album and from 'The Suicide Handbooks'. The songs from that mighthave been the follow-up to 'Heartbreaker', but I didn't want to be the bummer king, so I made 'Gold' instead. Now I want to be the bummer king again, because someone's got to do it. A lot of the songs from that session are about a girl in Hollywood. It was a painful break-up, so I went back to Nashville, lost weight, took too many drugs and wrote this song. It's about missing someone and maybe missing myself."
This song is about being a second best.
So sad. To her it was just a game.
I also feel that Ryan's voice takes on a Thom Yorke ala 'The Bends' sound, and goddamn it works.
I absolutely love this song...as well as all of Ryan's others. For some reason, since the first time I had heard this song, I have been reminded of the classic "Great Expectations". Remember how the little boy Pip was called over to play hearts with the girl Estella? He loved her and all she did was use him...Perhaps that was some of his inspiration when writing this song.
This is one of Ryan's "Winona songs". The first verse is eloquent enough: "I'm the broken toy/For a lonely girl/Use once and destroy/And go find some more". Catch my drift?
no, I don't. but i still love this song.
no, I don't. but i still love this song.
A good song about a fellow who is being used or feels as if he is being used.
This is about someone who has given up on life.
Has anyone of you read "Hearts in Atlantis" by Stephen King? For me, there is a strong connection between the lyrics and the book. It is a collection of 5 connected stories. The second story takes place in 1966 at the University of Maine. A lot of students are falling behind in their studies, because they´re playing the card game of hearts over and over again. One of the students falls in love for the first time, but the girl is leaving him. Very melancholic. Ryan once mentioned that he like Kings work. And Stephen King took some lyrics of "When stars go blue" as an introduction to his book "Lisey´s story". Maybe Ryan read "Hearts in Atlantis" and this inspired the lyrics? Anyway, for me it will always be the best Soundtrack to this book. Reading "Hearts in Atlantis" and hearing to this song keeps you thinking for a long long time.
