When I Look To The Sky Lyrics
When it rains it pours and opens doors
That flood the floors we thought would always
Keep us safe and dry
And in the midst of sailing ships
We sink our lips into the ones we love
That have to say goodbye
And as I float along this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that won’t seem to let me go
Cause when I look to the sky
Something tells me you’re here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
Something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here
And every word I didn’t say
That caught up in some busy day
And every dance on the kitchen floor
We didn’t have before
And every sunset that we’ll miss
I’ll wrap them all up in a kiss
And pick you up in all of this when I sail away
And while I float upon this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that I hope will never leave
Cause when I look to the sky
Something tells me you’re here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
Something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way
Whether I am up or down or in or out
Or just plane overhead
Instead it just feels like it is impossible To fly
But with you I can spread my wings
to see me over everything
That life may send me when I am hoping it won’t pass me by
And when I feel like there is no one
That will ever know me
There you are to show me
When I look to the sky
Something tells me you’re here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
Something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here
When I look to the sky
Something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here
And when I feel like I’m lost
Something tells me you’re here with me

Another personal favorite of mine from Train...I first heard this song when I went on my daily viewing of TRAINLINE.com, and it just gave me a bunch of mixed feelings inside....let me start off with saying that Pat, along with the rest of the Talented Train group is blessed to come up with such beautiful lyrics. I have a very good friend that is in the Marines that is leaving this very summer and when I heard this song, it reminded me exacly of him, all of the great memories we have shared in the past, and how greatly I am going to miss him when he leaves.
I think this song is about God or a guardian angel. There's references to Heaven and guidance. I don't really know how to explain it any further. It just seems to fit that way for me.
I agree with jiodek, i believe this song is about God. The only part that doesn't go along with that is the part when it says "Every word I didn't say.....I'll wrap them all up in a kiss". The most powerful part in the sing that enforces the God thing is, "When I feel that there is no one that will know me, you're there to show me..." I personally love this song!
I'm pretty sure it's about his mother. I twist it a little bit and make it a nice love story, but I'm pretty sure it's about his mother who died during the recording of "Drops of Jupiter" Whatever it's about it's a really great song about having someone with you always. I really love the 2nd verse the dancing on the kitchen floor set up against that romantic scene of a sunset is really great. And yes, sunsets with your mother can be cool ... there's a line you don't cross ... but they can be cool. I think of my grandmother who died of cancer when I hear the song. Always a pillar of strength to me.
I think jag3892 is pretty much on the money. if its not his mother its another loved one who has passed on. I know I always think of my mom, granted, like jag said about the line you don't cross, the last time I saw her she was in a hospital bed and pretty much just a shell, so I never got to really say goodbye, but I "wrapped it all up in a kiss" and basically kinda hope there is an afterlife so I can pick her up when I sail away(die). Also to boot, I never heard, or at least paid any attention to this song before, but it just seemed it had an extremely long airplay and was always on when I was down or just missing her.
i miss him so much. this song makes me breakdown every time i hear it. one day i know he will be back in my arms forever...
my grandmother passed away when i was about eight, the first time i heard this song i cried so hard. i have always felt like my grandmother was the only person who truly understood me and know everytime i heard that song i cry, because i miss her so much. i now 17 and it makes me happy everytime i'm driving my car and that song comes on the radio. i just look up to the sky and remember her, and i can't wait until it's my time to leave this world and go to heaven and be with her again.
When I heard this song I immediatley thought that it sounded like a guy singing to his a gf or his wife who had died, and how his faith helped him to know she was still with him.
I saw Train last year when they toured military bases. Gabby was right... according to Pat Monahan himself the song is about military folks going off to war and the people that they leave behind.
Train has become my favorite band. I cannot wait for their next album, whenever they may come.
I love this song, and I have heard that it was about his wife who passed on (in what matter I'm not sure) but if you read the lyrics, it seems to work...about love and guardian angels.
