Memo To Human Resources Lyrics
I'll be in the back, and I don't need the help
I'm good here in the back
I'm good all by myself
I'm busy taking stock of all the things that I've forgot (5 4 3 2)
And making mental notes of just exactly where I lost the plot (2 2 2 2)
I stuck around too long feeling sorry for myself
A disinvited guest rifles through the bathroom shelf
I'm searching for some disbelief that I can still suspend (5 4 3 2)
But never mind the furthermore-the plea is self-defense again (2 2 2 2)
Then the people came to talk me down
And I got some advice
Then the people came to talk me down
But I don't need advice-I'm down
Later in my car I considered what you said
I'm good here in my car
I'm good with what you said
And I'd be shouting out to you but I was mighty hoarse
Talk you through the finer points and issues much too small to force
Then the people came to talk me down
And I got some advice
Then the people came to talk me down
But I don't need advice-I'm down
I'm good here in the back
I'm good all by myself
I'm busy taking stock of all the things that I've forgot (5 4 3 2)
And making mental notes of just exactly where I lost the plot (2 2 2 2)
A disinvited guest rifles through the bathroom shelf
I'm searching for some disbelief that I can still suspend (5 4 3 2)
But never mind the furthermore-the plea is self-defense again (2 2 2 2)
And I got some advice

well, this is about suicide, i think, someone who tried to jump of a building but didn't. either that or by down, he means he did jump. i cant tell.

I think "Never mind the furthermore, the plea is self-defense" is a Monkees reference. Micky used that line in a couple songs he co-wrote.
I think it is about suicide. The people talking him down and such. Counting down... 5,4,3,2,2,2 Not sure if he's going to jump or something, stuck on '2' and getting talked down after thinking about it. Just a thought.
I thought it was about a reclusive, depressed writer who can't thing of anything to write (suspension of disbelief and losing the plot), but he's sort of a know it all and likes showing off to people. But when he's feeling bad, some people who got mad at him for being a pedant came to try to get him to be more modest and also give him some advice. He got the advice, but he already felt crappy, so they didn't really influence him there. Later, he reflects on their visit and (in the second person) realizes that they're right, but still wants to be a know-it-all at them.
I like the suicide idea, too, especially with the countdown. Maybe a suicidal writer? Eh, who knows, it is TMBG, after all.
I think it's about someone after a failed suicide attempt. Someone who's trying to figure things out afterward, he's getting treatment and it's helping but he needs to figure out some of it himself.
