Carnival Town Lyrics

Round 'n round
Carousel
Has got you under it's spell
Moving so fast...but
Going nowhere

Up 'n down
Ferris wheel
Tell me how does it feel
To be so high...
Looking down here

Is it lonely?
Lonely
Lonely

Did the clown
Make you smile
He was only your fool for a while
Now he's gone back home
And left you wandering there

Is it lonely?
Lonely
Lonely

Maybe the song's about someone that's so obsessed with getting ahead, getting higher on the ladder, someone seeking a fast-paced life. Someone who doesn't realize that getting to the top means sacrificing love and friendships, leaving him/her in a very lonely situation. The people around him/her, the "clown" that's only entertaining for a while, the latest fad, even he eventually goes home to his own life and problems. And the original "someone" is stuck...without anyone. Without substance.

There is something about this song that gives me a very nostalgic feeling. At the same time it encompasses the feelings of complete solitude. It makes me remember a time in my life when I felt the loneliest that i've ever felt...ever. It's almost like a paradox. Imagine being at a carnival, which is supposed to evoke feelings of happiness and togetherness. Yet, in the midst of it all, you become overwhelmed with feelings of complete isolation. sigh

I think this song is mysterious. It wraps up what is feels like to stop your life and just watch as the chaos continues around you. Thats what it feels like for me atleast.

This is an absolutely incredible song I think. The chords, the melody, the lyrics and those harmonies in the chorus are just perfect. One of Norah Jones's best I think.

I looove this song. okayy so here is my interpretationnn:

"Round 'n round Carousel Has got you under it's spell"

this song reminds me of my friend who has a boyfriend and they are always on and off and she is so dumb because she alwways falls for him so they are going round and round

"Up 'n down Ferris wheel Tell me how does it feel To be so high... Looking down here"

and then heres the best part everytime shegoes out with him there i go again in the backburner its like she doesnt know how to balance it out were she can keep her friends and her boyfriend so she is so high (from love) but she has no one else but her boyfriend so its like me saying that yeah you have your boyfriend but don;t you feel by yourself because you have dedicated your whole world to him and lost all your friends all the while.

"Did the clown Make you smile He was only your fool for a while Now he's gone back home And left you wandering there"

Tand basically like theybroke up and now she is lost because her world was her boyfriend.its like yeah he made you smile and have a good time but it was only temporary and now you are here by yourself.

"Is it lonely? Lonely"

basically you lost me as a friend now what are you gonna do .now your lonely, are you going to come back running to me because you are lonely?

buttt i love this songg along with norah jones i wish i knew people from around here who liked her <333

It sounds like she is questioning a god. This god looks down on us for entertainment. We are his Carnival Town. So Norah with some slight pity for him not being able to take part, is asking him if he isnt lonely sitting up there (in heaven) by himself
