I have no fucking clue. I'm going to assume about this girl-possibly named Daphne?-who had a positive effect on it. Truly, I have no idea, as with most of Paul's lyrics.

I haven't given this much thought but it just seems like it's about a relationship from the male perspective and he's not taking it too seriously. he flirts and plays with her feelings but isn't serious enough to make it a real relationship. she turns him on and stirs his emotions but he is more playful than committed.

It always seemed to me like Daphne is just a fictional character Paul has made up to represent his ideal girl, someone he's looking for to fulfill his needs and desires. In a Pitchfork interview Paul said ,"I went through a phase where I was fixated on girls names that, for me, kind of represented something. So in "Precipitate", Daphne is the character. It was actually more to do with certain female names that were really interesting to me." Alot of the lyrics are still pretty allusive to me but that just gives you a general idea of what the song is probaly about. One line that always interested me was "Saturn makes your mind break in pieces." In Roman mythology Saturn is the god of agriculture who represented a golden utopian age of happiness. Maybe he's saying how constant happiness can make you go crazy, you "cannot find dimensions" and he's using this line as a persuasive mechanism to get this girl to "walk through his gloom" I don't know. Just a thought.

He's depressed. He wants Daphne to arrive on his doorstep and come on to him. She's beautiful, quite virginal. An imagined girl. "Vice/coyote" must be about being intensely sexual as a young person. I like the song - not one of their anthemic songs, but still has the surface rock and the lyrical depth.
